One of our employess told me today that his sister who worked in non-flight section of Spirit was laid off after working there for two years, this was not just her, but a number of employees. what gives?

3 years ago today.. I quit USA Jet. I have not heard anything about Spirit Airlines.

yip, When Dr. Schorr sold a portion of the airline to Oaktree Capital, they obviously decided to make some changes. One such change was to cut some of the dead weight in management. Some cuts have been made in heavy m/x because the Busses are expected to need much less of said m/x. I'm sure that other areas have been pared to the bone as well. I have no doubt that your employee is telling you the truth.

With that said, I tend to believe that Spirit, previous to Oaktrees involvement, was pretty bloated in some areas. I hate it that anyone is losing their job, but some jobs were probably overmanned/un-necessary and had to go.

I would rather management cut a few more VP's, but that's just me. :)
