I am challenging a 2nd speeding ticket in less than one year
on Wednesday. I was ticketed for going 65MPH in a 60 MPH zone
while on my way to an aviation museum a few months back.
The other ticket was for 71MPH in a 60MPH. Rural area.
It blows me away that my career could be seriously hampered/damaged
over something so minor. I am really concerned since I am about to put in
resumes for some Part 135 work.

Should I let the attorney handle the case (hired one)
or actually go in and plead my case and situation to the judge?
And cite my career etc as the reason for dismissal.

Thanks for some honest advice.

Do you know for sure that this will hurt an opportunity that you have? I've seen guys with far worse than that (i.e. 2 DUIs) get into 135 with pretty low time. How much does it cost to hire the attorney? Can you get the ticket deferred?

That has to be an exceptionally rare case. In fact, I almost don't believe it.

In terms of your speeding tickets, pilotusnow, I would def. challenge the 65/60. I take it traffic school is not an option since you got two so close together.

The 65/60 the judge might find too petty or the cop might not even bother showing up for such a marginal infracture.

i know guys with over 20 moving violations working at southwest. DUIs hurt more but will not keep you from getting a job, neither will speeding tickets.

I personally cited a pilot three times in the two years before he got hired by SWA.

I also gave him SEVERAL warnings during that time.

He is a hell of a nice guy and I'm glad he ended up where he is.
