Just got this from an inside contact, don't know if it's hit MyMesaba yet...

February 9, 2006

Dear Colleagues:

It is with mixed emotion that we announce that Ed Davidson, vice president,
flight operations is leaving Mesaba Airlines. Ed has accepted a position as vice president fleet operations at Emirates Airlines based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

We will miss Ed, his wise counsel and tirelessness during a very difficult
period of our Company’s history. He has told me he believes Mesaba’s flight operations management team is one of the best in the business. Emirates not only presents an opportunity for Ed to work with a major, international wide-body airline but also is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him and his wife to move to the Middle East and enjoy the white-sandy beaches of Dubai.

We wish Ed all the best in this next phase of his career and we have full
confidence we will find a successor who will prove to be as effective a leader for our flight operations as Ed was. Ed’s final day at Mesaba will be March 1.

John Spanjers
President & COO

"Mixed emotion"? Even JinglePants must be slightly happy! A very interesting turn of events. Guess since he wasn't able to get those new contracts, it's time to go. I'm sure there's a line of people just waiting to fill his position....

Bye Bye "Captain" ED.......At least he won't be able to do any more damage to an already cripled regional airline.

Good point. What a waste of time. I wonder who they are going to replace him with.

They aren't fooling anyone. They are afraid of him getting called on the stand and sticking his foot in his mouth. I won't miss that IDIOT.

LMFAO! Nice.

Call me crazy, but I think this is a sign that Ed sees the writing on the wall and/or he won't play anymore with these crooks. Saying "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him and his wife to move to the Middle East and enjoy the white-sandy beaches of Dubai" is like saying "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be based in Devil's Lake." Are you f***ing crazy? Who wants to move to ground zero of World War III?

Ed is in it for Ed. He obviously thought he would either wind up in jail here or without a job (more likely). He wasn't looking to move to the Middle East, he just realized he was in a no-win situation here and all of the pilots suddenly hated his guts.

Everyone from Champion said from the beginning: Ed is it only for himself.

Maybe as a parting gift we can tatoo the cartoon of Muhammed with the bomb on his head right on Ed's face. That would give his new neighbors something to think about.

Ceeyaa Ed. Enjoy your exile.
Time to get serious and string these guys up like the Italians did to Mussolini and his mistress.

P.S.-Didn't Michael Jackson flee to Dubai too?

You know, it was a real shocker to me for this guy to even show up. Yeah, I know he is former Champion, NWA, etc....but Mesaba always recycles the same 15 or so lackey pilots. The names are always the same in the FOM; just different job titles.

I figured that announcement was some sort of really early April fools joke, but then I saw it on MyMesaba.

Did anybody else just love Ed's "letter to pilots and dispatchers"?
