Heard from a crashpader that he was notified by Southwest that the 60 year olds that just retired are being allowed back. Supposedly they can come back as new FO's at the bottom of the senority list but they are at the top of the hiring pool. First year pay but still collecting a pension. Anyone have confirmation?

There's a thread about this in the Majors section.

Oh, I thought Southwest was a LCC and a national carrier. Found it. Thanks.

I guess you can think of them as a MAJOR low-cost carrier.

Best of luck to those in the pool.

Maybe, but I don't think the IRS allows you to collect a pension from the same company you are currently employed.

I have known people who have collected pensions and a hourly pay rate but they had to be considered independent contractors. They were not allowed to be employees.

age 70 1/2 are mandatory payouts under a defined benefit pension. thus an active employee over age 70 1/2 can continue to accrue benefit service while collecting a benefit.

either way, airline pilots clock out at 65 and it is a non issue as southwest does not have a defined benefit plan anyways.
