Southwest Airlines Changes Pilot-In-Command Hours Requirement to 1,000 for First Officer Applicants.
Southwest Airlines announced today they will change their requirement for First Officer Applicants to 1,000 hours Turbine Pilot-in-Command Time.

Effective immediately, their requirement for Pilot-in-Command turbine (PIC) time is 1,000 hours. Interviews for a First Officer position will continue to be granted on a competitive basis. Applicants will be invited to interview at the time they are considered the most competitive, based on the needs of Southwest Airlines. All other requirements remain the same.

Another sign of the growing worldwide pilot shortage, competitive minimums are being redefined. We never lower standards. This is being dome to ensure a quality cut in the selection process. With the drop in PIC mins the number of candidate will start to decrease. It will be happening at every other airline also. I predicted this one month ago
