I have a furloughed friend who is interested in Southern Air---the 747 operator who used to be Southern Air Transport I guess. Anyway, does anyone have any info on them? Bases, routes, hiring mins, etc?

Bye Bye--General Lee

Don't be fooled, General! Them's Connecticut Yankees! The only real Southern airlines are based in ATL!!

Seriously, I think there were some past posts in the Cargo section.

Bases: Home based, they airline you to work

Mins: 500 hours in Group II transport AC and 2,500 total I think it was.....

Fleet: 4 747-200's

Routes: Hong Kong, Korea, China, UAE, Germany pretty much.....

Schedule: 20 days on 10 days off

Thank you flyer4hire.

I thought I saw a 747-300 operated by Southern Air recently. What are the pilot bases? How many more aircraft (743s) are due and are they currently hiring?

General your friend should look into Kalitta Air if he's interested in this type of flying. We are hiring like crazy. Planning on doubling the number of crews is the latest rumor...

Oh also, 17 on 14 off at Kalitta. A little better schedule.

Are you guys at Kalitta adding more airplanes or just covering for attrition? Where are the pilot bases again? Thanks

There is a little attrition. Some guys are accepting recalls to the majors. Alot aren't though. The guy that flew support for me in the sim has already been recalled to Delta and turned it down. He's waiting to see how things turn out. We are extremely short handed and they want to double the number of crews. I've heard hiring will continue non-stop until the end of 2006. Upgrades too.

Supposedly we aren't adding anymore planes. We have 15 and Connie himself said he likes it that way. He can keep tight control on things. Rumor has it planes 16 and 17 are already purchased though. Rumor. Maybe they're just parts planes I have no idea.

There are no pilot bases we're "home based". Technically we're not but thats how it works out most of the time. You could be asked to get to our one and only base, YIP but then they'd just have to airline you to your plane from there.... see what I mean?

Hey XFR8dog,
I walked in my resume and the lady at font desk there just gave me a 2 page application and attached to my resume than I just recived a letter saying my resume is on file not even my name just to whom it may concern.
Do u think I should go try harder or call?
I appreciate any help thanks.
