I'm a starving flight instructor.. well, maybe not starving, here in Temecula, I was wondering if anyone had any leads on getting some multi time.

I just bumped up against the old.. sorry you don't have enough time in the type and I don't have the $5000 bux to get the time in the type to be able to teach in the type.. kinda a catch 22

Anyway, if anyone know of anyone, I'm available pretty much anytime in the evening, weekdays and weekends.

If you're an MEI, try Air Desert Pacific at Brackett Field. If you're not one, do their course and they may hire you upon completion, you'll have to ask. If you end up there, tons o' ME time will come your way.

Be careful there:

ADP = Another Dead Pilot

I've heard it's kind of a scary operation - not as bad as Shebly's, but it doesn't exactly hold a lot of credibility. . .

Just what I've heard, don't know for sure - it might be ok, but just do your homework. . .

I've actually got a good gig going on here at French Valley. So even though there is no multi stuff goin on, I'm just gonna hang out here and hope that someone with a king air takes pity on my poor soul.

i was in that same situation. i think everyone has that situation at one point. getting multi time is a big catch 22. i didn't have enough multi to teach in our twin. same thing. it's rough man. it's really rough.

the only thing i can tell you is keep hitting the cfi thing and look around for some way to build some multi time. do what you can. put up flyers at different airports explaining that you'd like to hop along to build up your me. something like that. i know it sucks, but you'll get there. just gotta try. good luck.

I live under the left base to the south runway at F70. I see lots of ME going over. Have you hit up any of the owners of aircraft based there? I hit the cafe every now and then and see lots of multi engine aircraft around.
Good luck

Mostly it's about timing. There have been some ME ops that have come up, but then I am with or have a student scheduled. I am not so desparate that I will sacrafice a students learning for me to get ME time, unlike other instructors, I care about building time but not at the expense of my students.

Basically, I'm looking for something in the night time that I can do while I am not teaching or waiting for prospective students to come in.

I'm sure if I keep up the good work, it will pay off and someone will come in who needs someone to sit right seat or something.

I pretty much talk to everyone that comes in when I am there.. so... patience ;)

I'm sure i'm probably missing something but, how would somebody giving you KingAir time help you? How could you log any time in this aircraft if your not checked out to be PIC and it doesn't require a SIC?

He's probably hoping he can get some "sole manipulator of the controls" time in a King Air (with someone else in it acting as the PIC), and thereby log it as PIC.

Two PIC's in an aircraft that requires one. Then logging time as sole manipulator of the controls as PIC of an aircraft he's not qualified in. I'm confused and lucky I don't have to figure this out for myself. Good luck. Also, I've never seen a log book with a column for sole manipulator of the controls but not pic or sic. I've read about, talked about, disgussed, argued, debated, etc.etc. loggbook discussions with people in all parts of aviation including fed's and never got two people to agree on much.

The best advice for people who need time is to beg borrow and steal it and charge all credit cards for it. The sooner you get a job and a seniority number the better no matter what the cost.

as long as he's got a multi and a high altitude endorsement, he's "rated." how can he not act as pic? he may not be the final authority over the decisions made, but he's still pic if he's the sole manipulator of the controls.

just because two people are in the aircraft doesn't mean they're both playing pic.

that's how i built my multi time with my company. i flew the 91 legs in our c-402's. i was with another pilot, but i was the sole manipulator. were we both pic? no.

don't go out of your way to make things complicated.

Sigh.. not this argument again, I've talked to two FSDO's. Miami says two PIC's, one responsible for the operation, the other, the sole manipulator of the controls... San Diego FSDO says no, yah can't do it that way.

So, I'm not logging it, fortunatly the King Air time that I have was logged as PIC and dual received so it's all legit. and after 50 hours in them.. I think I am pretty good, but that's not important right now. What is important is that I want to beg, borrow or steal any ME time if I can work it in with my busy CFI schedule durning the day.

What I am hoping is that I can find maybe a part 135 job, that requires the right seat position, but I am not holding my breath.

You and me both bro, best of luck! :)

I taught at ADP. Sent the wife for training, and she'll likely be teaching there too. So from that perspective:

Ari is a little shifty, but not scummy. Well above "industry average" for ethics, IMHO. The Websters are top notch folks. It ain't Riddle (of which I also am a grad) but what beside the instructor are you going to get for $62/hour there?

I AVERAGED 105 flight hours per month as an instructor. After a few months, 2/3 of that was multi. Flown LA to Key West more times than I can count and even circumnavigated CONUS thanks to students and 100 hour blocks. Beats yelling "right rudder" every other hour....

"Another Dead Pilot?" Please--that's almost as clever as "Northworst". The overwhelming majority of accidents are straight stupid pilot tricks--performed by RENTERS, not active students and without an instructor on board. Want to scud-run the Cajon pass in an arrow with a VFR ticket, get-there-itis and a family in the backseat? Don't see how that was Ari's fault. Or the nitwit who VMC'd an Apache because the baggage door opened on takeoff? Or the eurotrash who skimmed the Pacific, landed at catalina, was observed putting dirt in the oil filler, caught a cab down to avalon, ferry to Long Beach, another cab to LAX and left for Italy without telling anyone and claiming "engine problems" upon returning to Europe?

It's fun to have catch phrases like "Another Dead Pilot"--just know what you're talking about.
