What's that famous JO quote, "The minute pilots stop showing up for indoc is day I have found the bottom of the pay scale."

Inexperienced aviators no matter what the age, form some kind of mindset as to what they think the industry is or will be like. They will virtually do anything to achieve that dream, they will work to obtain it in an way, and that includes working hard. However, management exploits this drive by offering extremelly low paying jobs that make you more competitive to getting to an airline faster. This would be ok if the regionals were where they were several years ago, where you only worked there for 2 years and then you made mainline. Now with regional expansion and 3000- 5000 PIC is competitive at the majors any regional job you go to, you will be there at least 10 years on average.

I don't have an answer, however, i think it has something to do with those people who fly 1 lesson in a c152 and then make their screen name "Super_F-18_aviator".

There is also a little rule about the market and this applies to labor also. "Whatever the market will bear."

Because no matter which way you slice it Multi-Engine Turbine time is always better than Dual Given in a 172. ALL pilots at this stage are concentrated on one thing: building quality flight time. It's not untill they've been at a regional or wherever for a year or two and they have the time that they start worrying about pay and workrules. Just the way it goes.

have you ever CFIed? It sucks. A lot of the reason CFIs are willing to accept crappy pay is because it is a pay increase. I made just over $11,000 the year that I CFIed. The YEAR that I CFIed - $11,000. My schedule was so fouled up that being on reserve was nice. Why? Because I knew I would get some days off to my self. I could plan on SOMETHING.

The few months that I made "good" money (like $1,500 a month) I was so busy that I didn't have time to even do my laundry. I didn't get a day off in four months. All for $1,500 a month. This is why CFIs are willing to take these jobs.

fair enough. what got me thinking this was a cfi at my airport told me he was going to mesa. i asked him how much he was going to make and his reply was, "about $17,000 to start, but who cares... i'll be flying jets." to each his own. it just seemed a bit misguided to me. but i could be way off base here.
