I will be graduating college in May, and I just got a non-aviation job. I'm gonna see how the business career shakes out for a few years and fly on the side. If I can stand the 9-5 job and do well at it then I'm gonna return for my MBA from the best school possible, then go from there. I just can't justify going 30K deep into flight training in pursuit of a career that is in such bad shape now, no matter how much I love it. There are still aspects of being an airline pilot I don't like. I don't like the idea of being a number and the seniority system. I want to be paid for performance. I'm only 22 now and I could stand traveling and being on the road, but what about in the future. I'm sure it would wear off. On the other hand there is still an appeal. The appeal I think is the same for all of us because we love flying. See falcon capt's pic in the why you are flying for a living thread...
Does the appeal outweight the negatives? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. If the 172 on the weekends isn't doing it for me then I may have to change. I think it would be a whole lot easier going from the business world to being a pilot than the other way around. I'm just making the best decision I can now with the information I have available. As for if this is the right decision...well, I'll see in a few years I guess.
Thanks to everyone out there who over the past years have provided me advice/information along the way. Good luck to everyone out there struggling with their tough decision....
