I am a current CFII,MEI fixed wing ATP...... I also hold a commercial Helicopter....... My friend is a Qualified CFII Helicopter pilot..................
Question is ...........

Can I give him a Instrument comp sign off in his helicopter????????? He flies it part 91 for an owner...... the helicopter is full single pilot IFR

No. You must be an "authorized instructor". That means you must be able to instruct instruments in a helicopter.

You can, however, be Safety Pilot in a helicopter while he flies approaches under the hood, if that helps.

If the second "I" is "Instrument Airplane," no. If the second "I" is "Instrument Helicopter", maybe. (The "maybe" is being discussed in another thread)

thanks for the responses............

...huh?...why "maybe"?...what other thread?

Oh, it's the old story about a CFI with an instrument rating but no aircraft rating on the CFI certificate being able to teach instruments in an aircraft, based solely on having a commercial certificate with the proper aircraft rating.

The usual context is the CFI-I but no ASE teaching instruments in an airplane or the CFI with an ASE and IA rating being able to teach instruments in a multi. One of those in which the Part 61 FAQ says "sure" but the regulation says "no". It' was touched on briefly for the umpteenth time in the "ASEL pilot log instrument time in AMEL acft? " thread.
