Just looking for a little information and help if possible. I am an F/O for an air ambulance operation. I live in Utah and am based in Denver - as of next month. Im trying to research whether or not 135'ers are allowed to jumpseat anything but a rental car. Ill fly out of Salt Lake City into either Denver or Centennial(base). Outside of driving, buddy passes, convincing students to fly rentals over the mountains for the invaluable instruction and time they'll get - there is forking out a considerable chunk of my pay to fly regular like. Hopefully jumpseating is possible.

No I cant move to Denver. They will fly me out of SLC occasionally. The schedule is typically 2-3 weeks on and 2 weeks off so the commute isn't too painful - even with the drive.

Any info is greatly appreciated

Good luck with the JS.

Not to many of the 121's are allowing 135 types to JS anymore. Might try posting on the regional board and get some input from those guys. If it is I-Jet, good luck, use it for all you can get out of it and keep looking. There are many better jobs out there but you gotta start somewhere.
 
SLC-DEN commute

There used to be a company called American Check Transport that ran MU-2's from APA to SLC. I believe the jumpseat was available to anyone with a pilot certificate. You might also try AirNet out of APA. They run Lears at night to various places, not sure about SLC?
The 'big boys', 121 air carriers are hit and miss, if you can get to the Captain he might let you on, but the gate agents can be the show stopper! Frontier seems to be fairly liberal with the jumpseat for 135 guys.

Forget AirNet, I cooresponded with the chief pilot a couple months back about JS for my 135 company between Fl and Co. Their premise is if you are 135 on demand (air taxi, air ambulance et al), then you have nothing to offer them in reciprocity. You need to be a scheduled carrier to get on their approved jumpseat list. Same goes more and more for the 121 operators. It's an pilot union thing that was further precipated by 9/11 and TSAs requirement that a company providing a js has to be able to confirm a jumpseaters pilot/employment status. All of the operators are trying to go to a computer data base system but doubt it will include on demand.

Thanks for the info. Ill try American Check and see what happens. I see myself going to the airport in uniform and spending a day talking to anyone who will give me a moment. Who knows - maybe Ill find some part time work to balance out the cost of a commercial commute. Some look at it as a sad state but the job is great and so is living in Park City.

I would try js-ing (in the back of course) on the airlines. I am 135 and used to commute a little, until recently. I had decent luck with Frontier, so-so luck with AWA, and good luck with Great lakes. ATA guys are super cool, but I dont think they go SLC to DEN.

Just try it out. Obviously, the first couple of times, allow plenty of time for plan B if no one lets you on. Its definitely hit/miss for us 135 hobos.
