Skywest Upgrade Times

Can anyone tell me the upgrade times at Skywest for someone who would be a current new hire in the EMB and CRJ?

How likely is the opening of an ORD base and when? Thanks!

I just checked the FAA Type rating / certificate website http://registry.faa.gov/amquery.asp
to see if a pilot I know that's been there almost four years now has any new types, and he's not typed yet.

I just heard of a guy upgrading in around 7 months on the EMB....was within the last 2 years.....I guess it depends on the bid and the aircraft/domicile you pick......

I did his IOE and he was sent to IAH. He was not the only one to upgrade that quickly at that time and you would be suprised at how many people choose QOL vs. upgrade here at SkyWest. We have 47 new jets that will be delivered in the next 15ish months (7 CR2s for DCI, 10 CR2s and 30 CR7s for UAL). I believe upgrade time will be falling again soon. Good Luck!

Is 2-3 yrs down the road hard to predict the upgrade/hiring situation at SKW? Or will it most likely go to a 4-5-6 yr upgrade when they get all the planes on order?

Maybe for the RJ but not Brasilia. The only way he'd be waiting that long for an EMB upgrade is if he had a domicile specific bid for a senior domicile. He probably could have upgraded 12-18 months ago if he was flexible on domicile.

It's impossible to predict future upgrade times however if you look at the press releases stating future aircraft deliveries it won't be too long.

I've been at SkyWest since 01/03 and I'm now about #100 in line for upgrade on the EMB-120. 2 years max it looks like for upgrade. The CRJ is a bit longer, 3-4 years total is my guess. A lot of guys start in the EMB, transition to the CRJ as a F.O., go back to the EMB for upgrade after a year and then go back to the CRJ as captain after another year. 3 year plan!

Upgrade

Upgrade has been as low as three months in the past year on the EMB-120. Right now its probably around 1.5 years. Jet Upgrade is around 3 years.
