Hi there, I'm finally swimming in the pool and I have some questions to ask.

1. What headsets work in the EMB120? Does anyone use a lightweight or ear gel type?

2. What size flight case works well?

3. Does anyone know of any classes after the 2 EMB classes this month?

4. Is there a website/forum for Skywest pilots where I can find out more of what is going on at the company?

Thanks in advance,
one happy wet dog

I was in the EMB-120 at Lakes for awhile. You probably want a normal headset becuz the Brasilia can be very loud some times at high power setting and/or when the condition levers are at Max. I don't know the seating configuration in Skywest EMB-120s but you probably want a small flight case because there is no closet big enough to put them in. We would put are cases behind the last row of seats.

Congratulations, I hear it's a great place to be!

I've only seen one guy use the lightweight version and he was nuts. Get ANR if you can, definitely the "ear gel type" is appropriate in the 120. I'd hazard to guess it's the same for all turboprops.

2. What size flight case works well?

The smaller the better. Jepp case just WON'T fit, so don't even try. The best ones are the "mushable" types (e.g.- not hard sided) that you can squeeze in beside you. Basically, limit yourself to what you need and nothing else.

3. Does anyone know of any classes after the 2 EMB classes this month?

Hahaha! No. If you're new to this industry (and it sounds like you are), things happen with little notice. Same is true at SkyWest.

4. Is there a website/forum for Skywest pilots where I can find out more of what is going on at the company?

Yup, one of the senior captains maintains an excellent forums website, but you have to be a SkyWest employee to have access to it. So you'll just have to wait until you're on property I'm afraid.

Good luck, glad that you made it on board!
