I heard that and no more EMB upgrades until next year. It's the rumor mill though. RJs still going strong.

"I heard that and no more EMB upgrades until next year. It's the rumor mill though. RJs still going strong."

Does this mean the EMB Pilots will be locked into place for a year or more.

No, those FO's who are not seat locked (12 months +) on the Bro will bid out on the RJ and GO since the jet is going strong!!!
Upgrades on the jet will come from EMB Capt and RJ fo's.
So it's hard to believe this one unless they'll retire 20 EMB's or so :)

I don't understand how they're still calling people for interviews yet they are cancelling classes left and right and downsizing the ones they have left! Whats the deal?

We are still running newhire E-120 classes, just not at the rate we were planning on before. You are correct about E-120 upgrades. We are a little overstaffed on E-120 captains right now so the plan is to not run upgrades til next year. Of course, this is all tentative... as usual!

Don't forget these classes being discussed are only the EMB classes, the RJ classes have been running continuously at record size (40 pilots), and they have been from half to almost all newhires.

With most of the Brasilia F.O.s that want the transition still under the 12 month seatlock and what with all the A/C scheduled to arrive just beginning to hit the ramp, I'd expect most newhires for the forseeable future to be flying the jet.

So if they are still hiring for the jet, does that mean they are hiring around the EMB pool? So someone hired after me gets into a class before me? I'm just kinda curious as to what to expect for a wait as I was told I was in the prop pool. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, I'm just trying to get an idea of what's going on.

BTW any idea when the next EMB class may be? I've heard August...

Ive heard a lot of people who want to go with Skywest just to get on the EMB-120. My friends CFI is going to apply soon, with his main goal of getting on the 120. Must be a pretty nice prop plane to fly with a lot of people wanting to get on flyin it....

Well the reason to go to the EMB as a new hire is probably for quality of life. If you go to the EMB you won't sit very long because of all the EMB FO transitions to the jet. If you go to the jet as a new hire then you will sit reserve for a very long time, but you will have a seniority number. Take what you can get. If the give you the choice for EMB or RJ in the next class, take the EMB and your life will be much better for the first year. Pay is the same the first year as well. Once you have your year in, you can transition to the jet. Just my opinion. Good luck in class guys and welcome aboard.

I saw the email about stopping EMB upgrades. It specifically mentioned that newhire classes would continue. For those of you here at SkyWest, a year and a half ago we got a memo stating that Tuscon would NOT be a base in the future. Two weeks later we get another one stating the opening of TUS with 25 crews. Things change quickly here.

There are still a ton of people wanting to transition to the rj, and for those of you interested, look at skywest.com, and under delivery schedule ( I believe) there is a chart with the scheduled deliveries. We start getting between four and five RJ's (mix of 70's and 50's) starting in July for a total of 42 between now and next may. Additionally, there are no emb's retiring on that schedule.

Mookie--

Hey for a few of you guys that are in the pool for the 120, when did you interview. I am just curious to see where I sit in the pool, so I know if I can make any plans for the summer or just tread water. I interviewed at the end of March. And I know one guy who interviewed at the beg of march and is already in ground school for the BRO. I heard there were around 60-70 in the pool?? Does that sound right?

WHATS HAPPENING MR. Action J. We need to go have a drink sometime soon!
