Does Skyway have a 6 month reserve for new hires, or is it one week out of every month? I've heard both and have no idea if one, or either is correct. Thanks.

reserve

There are reserve lines that of course typically go junior. Since there is alot of open time there are build up lines. So even though you you got a reserve line, you sometimes can already know what you are going to do from the build up. Anytime you would be on reserve AND there is no open time, you will sit reserve. Hope this helps.

greek to me

build up lines are lines that are built from open time.

Scenerio to explain open time.

YXZ airline has 6000 of flight time for a month to fill. Crew planners assemble lines that the crews can bid on. Any time that cannot be built into the lines and any time that was dropped for vacations, training, contractual reasons, etc. is now unassigned flight time. This is "dropped" into open time.

Lets say that 600 hours were "dropped" into open time. Crew Planners will then assemble lines from THIS time and give them to reserve pilots. SOO even though you are on reserve - you will already know what you will be doing. If there is no open time for them to assign you then you will sit the reserve duty you orginally were assigned.

Hope this helps. It is different for every airline but this is SYX (original question of the post). It will all make more sense about 3 days after you are on line and Crew Planning calls you for the first time for a little of schedule "adjustment". :)

Skyway Bids

How many lines are available for the 328 and 1900 each month? What is the average trip length, 3 or 4 days? Or is it a mixture of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Stand-up's?

One more question - who is the most junior (seniority number) that is able to hold a line each month?

Thanks

:D

good question

Honestly, it changes month to month to month. It is just one of those things that you will figure out on how it will personally relate to you when the time comes. Just some things that will determine the answer to your questions. How much flight time needs to be filled this month? How many senior guys/gals bid reserve? What your seniority is? Etc. It is giving me a headache just thinking about it.

I would imagine the stand-up's go senior as would 1 day out-and-back trips.

Thanks

That depends on wether or not the bidding pilots ahead of you commute into MKE to work, currently I would estimate about 1/3rd of our pilots do. Me personnaly I like stand up lines but contractually we are limited. And yes the day trips are usually fairly senior only beacuse they have 18 days off in a month in them.
As of March bid:
328 FO lines 28 hard 9 Reserve
We must be ramping up for something since the new hire class in March has 19 Jet FO's in it. Makes ya wonder don't it........
