House Of Cards

well since the yield is only 5 cents a mile, then the more planes put in the air and the more labor increases, the more the losses wil mount. many ceos or business owners will often shrink into profitibility, an easy way to bring costs in line with revenues. but skybus is expanding...a tought ask to pull off. 90/oil is here to stay.

in my view, the biggest problem for them is that over the last ten years , Greensboro has never had more that 1.4 million passengers. YTD 915,000.

diffenderfer said that at its full strength, the hub should enplane 1.6 million pax.

THAT'S A WHOPPING 300% increase in a market that has never been half that and is currently averaging 1 mil a year.

In a study of the STATE of NC DOT concerning air travel, SH&E sites the numbers that given the proximity to CLT and RDU , there simply isn't enough paying customers who would forego travel choices in these two markets in exchange for a seat similar in cost to fly into airports an hour away from their real hotel spot.

Bottom line, given the report, they wil have to scrap this plan and become another typical LCC. unless trends change

....and unless North Carolina experiences the rapid migration of an addtional 1.5 million air travelers from other states willing to fly skybus, they'll have to change course.

You are right dude, the place is a "house of cards".In 2008 the house will crash!!
How in the heck can an airline make a profit at places like SGJ(St.Augustine,Fl.) or Punta Gorda ,Fla operating heavy jets?? The population base is questionable, there is nearby competition from OTHER airports with alot more choices for flights.
I'm glad its not my money they are burning UP!!!!!!

The only thing attractive to me was the out n backs and home at night. i spend most nights a t home now. as do most, i do things on the side to get by.

Being a professional pilot is a full-time profession, not a side job. You only have to "do things on the side to get by" if you lower your standards enough to work for a place like Skybus, or you live beyond your means. If you took a job there, you would be working more days per month between your airline job and your side gig than you would be if you simply held out for a respectable airline career and worked one job.

Yeah , that makes sense if you hold out and it works out... i get the point in the spirit it is meant... but you and I know that alot of folks have side gigs going on. this has been the case .. why ? there is so much time off..you get bored. golf is fun to drink beer and hang out with fellows, but work on your game three days a week..don't think so...

I hear you though... i ruled SX out several months ago... i hear the up grade is a year or more now. no gaurnatee at holding GSO ..i'm minutes from the airport.... if the new base doesn't make it or they redeploy assets then the whole plan is up in smoke..don't want to commute to some strange place with no airline service except SX

BTW, when are the Q4 numbers coming out?

Imploding ???

How long before this outfit pulls out of GSO entirely?I give it 6 mos.and 9 mos until they shut down completely!!!
