Just had sinus surgery about a week ago. doc fixed a deviated septum, and cleared out some other blockage. some of you guys say a couple of weeks im out, some say a few months. As of now he's got me out unitl the middle of june until a follow up visit thats five weeks from the date of surgery.Doc said it could be longer do to barotrauma to the sinusus. meaning that ive always had trouble clearing pressure from my ears, which inhibits me from the old hold your nose and blow technique until i'm 100% healed. He said everything could get jarred if i attempt this to early. Any insight or past experiance with this would be greatly appreciated.(also could anyone shed light on this self grounding option) Thanks guys

If the Doc has orders not to fly, its not a self grounding situation. You are following your medical professionals orders. If you ignore his orders, then you may experience unreparable and painful damage to your body.

Once your ENT gives you the thumbs up, you're ok to fly. When you get your next medical, make sure you get copies of your medical records from the surgeon and a letter that says you're 100% healed. Your AME will have to send them in to the FAA for your file.
