OK, here is the question:

Can a CFI that has a Commercial Single Engine Sea rating, instruct students for a SES add-on rating?

Seems like a straight forward yes answer but I have been told no by some fellow pilots who when pressed cannot offer any back up to their positions.

Yes! There's no such thing as a CFI-Seaplane, so you just need a regular CFI (or MEI whichever) and a ASES or AMES rating on your commercial.

Ok. next time you run into one of those guys, ask them what *is* the proper certificate for instructing in a single engine seaplane.

If they tell you instructor, single engine seaplane, start laughing. There is no such thing.
