I have groundschool coming up for a new job. I haven't flown in the past two weeks or so, and the sim is scheduled to be sometimes in mid-late-April. I have not shot any approaches really within the past two months due to icing limitations of my aircraft. Would it be worth my while to grab some sim time and shoot a few approaches before I ship out to training next week? To keep the scan up? New situation for me, I don't want to be falling behind in class because my scan went all stupid.

Absolutley!.....At the very least get Flightsim 2004 and fly a few approaches every day while in ground school too. Practice all the company calls and procedures too as much as you can to make it second nature. Good luck.

I think it would be a waste of your time and money. Your new sim training will probide you with everything you need. That being said, they don't have time to teach you scan and basic instrument skills. If you have problems in this area, you might have trouble in training. I don't mean to offend you personally here, but if you are having these problems then invest in some fresca or something before training, so you don't have these problems.

This is a new one on me. Invest in some fresca or something? Since when has a grapefruit flavored soda ever helped anyone with their instrument scan??

Maybe I'm just getting old and some of these new-fangled tricks have passed me by.:(

You are better off chairflying the approaches in the cpt or fbs using the companies call outs and flows. They will slow you down much more then the approaches themselves.
