Taxiied out to 18L in KMEM on Sunday and (I believe) a US Airways Express RJ, callsign "Shuttle" departed 18L in front of us {it was a dark RJ - I wasn't paying attention at the time}

He took off, declared an emergency, reported an engine fire, rolled the trucks and landed on 27. Great job by the crew and the local Memfo ATC guys. Just wondering if anyone heard any facts other than my lousey "eye witness acount"....

Thanks for the info,

Great job by the Mesa crew, they same across the radio cool & calm and put their jet on the ground safely and quickly.

Yeah what you didn't see was they had to either

A) get out and fix the engine themselves....or

B) dig into their own pockets to pay mx... or

c) rounded up Mesa Elite AKA...Greyhound to shuttle to Pax..

but the jackets are cool right?

Yep, had me absolutely in stitches, too.

:eek:

Well I guess they got better since, " Go around is no Option " and then slaming the plane into the ground at ROA....

mesa basher

Gee, I guess that since Mesa is taking deliver of 5 new CRJs a month, there is no cash left to fix the fleet...

Capt Tex...Did you used to Fly at Air Middie? A IP at Pensacola? Now at WN?If so..IM me! Hope all is well!
An old Airmidwest instructor, now at Mesa, hopefully to get the hell out soon!

I had a friend on that plane. He was crew moving to CLT after a charter from CUN to MEM (he works for Pace). Apparently right after takeoff there was a loud bang and the captain shut down one of the engines. Almost immediately afterward they had a partial failure of the other engine. The captain told the pax to brace over the intercom and the flight attendant prepared the cabin for a emergency landing. The FA got the deadheading Pace crew to assist in the evac operation and everyone got out OK.
