I would like some information on Shuttle America (SA). Specifically, what its plans might be with regard to US Airways and United before applying for the dispatch position in FWA. Since both of those companies are having serious financial problems, what does this do for SA's business? After doing a forum search on SA, it seems that everyone has a different rumor.

I also noticed that in the most recent on-line job listing through the AEPS site, SA now has in the duty portion of the job listing this statement. “Act as "on call" dispatcher during assigned periods”. Does this mean there is no full time dispatchers available during normal flight operations periods? Any ideas on how many dispatchers are assigned at SA?

Having grown up in FWA, this could be a good job possibility if there is someone to fly for (major carrier). Sure would like to find this out before moving back from ABQ.

To answer your question...

SA uses normal dispatchers for all ther ops. They are there when there is a bird in the air (which equates to all day).

As far as US Airways and United are concerned...

The last plan I heard was that US Airways flying would be discontinued as of this fall as the leases on some aircraft run out. The United flying is under contract to continue for a while.

Things are very dynamic there. They are always on the cusp of being great, yet don't ever seem to get "over the hill".

They will be around for a while though. They have a lot of backing. I was there more than 2 1/2 years, and the only reason I left was to fly bigger aircraft.

According to UAL press releases, the Sh!ttle America contract was for 1 year. Most believe they are trying to get away from Turboprops except for the mountain flying.

Technically, it's a 1 year deal with the option for further extentions. I don't think they'll be done after a year, but we'll see.
