Does anyone know how many pilots SA plans on hiring? And how many classes they plan on having this year?

I understand from previous threads that the Saabs are going away starting in a year and finishing up in 2006? So its either get RJ's, go to CHT, or Close Shop! Any rumors lately on what might happen?

Any info would be helpful, thanks in advance. And I don't post very much so this is just a fact finding thread for me!! Happy Holidays

There is a new class starting on Monday December 15th. Not sure how many are in it though. As far as what the future holds, who knows? You pretty much summed up the options we have, I would prefer the RJ option but we haven't seen anything that points in any one direction.

This is a decent place to work but it all depends on what you are looking for.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

I heard around 10 in the Dec. 15th Class. Also I heard from a credible source that they will also be running another new hire class in January some time.

We need it. We are so short staffed that I, and many others are looking at about 6-8 days off this month with junior manning.

I'm pretty sure that we are NOT hiring because of any new type of expansion or new equipment in the near future, merely to re-staff the shortages and ease the schedules.

Regardless, expect to fly ALOT.

Thanks LuvMyJob,
I appreciate the response, It is what you make of it! I've also heard the pilots are a good group!

Does anyone have an opinion or heard how SA may be affected by Wexfords failure to aquire Midway? If at all!!

opinion:

better. It's one less certificate for Wexie to play with, so they might as well do something productive with the one they have--unless the existing labor contracts are the problem.

It appears that Shuttle must hire, by abusing the present employees they have started a mass exodus.

Wow, that gave me a bad flashback of "Making it rain" in basic training... (In case anyone doesnt know making it rain means they pt you so hard that water drips off the ceilings.)

WTF. I didn't know that we had more than 1 Chief Pilot?

I think your post is about 3 months old, the mass exodus occurred a while ago, I didn't realize there was another one unless you count 2 guys going to ATA and one waiting for AirTran to set a date a "mass exodus"

Don't attempt to cloud a good rant with facts, LuvMyJob. :D

You are right, of course. We lost a whole truckload of people in what amounted to one fell swoop a few months back. Then a lull. Then one leaves for ATA, another two are waiting for dates at ATA and AirTran, respectively, and that's pretty much it.

The people who quit were essentially replaced by those who were hired for a class that is online and has been for over two months (the infamous "Class of 16, errrr, 14"). It's the OTHER 19 new-hires and the 10 (??) in the upcoming class that will flesh out the roster and have us properly staffed for the first time in a good while.

There is more flying for January. Beyond that, I know nothing. We did give back three airplanes, but they are being replaced by the three hangar queens that weren't flying... But are now, or are about to. So we're back where we started, essentially, in terms of flyable airframes.

*ahem* 2 back, 2 'bout ready to fly and 1 hangar queen (or spare parts biotch). :) 108's a keeper still for a year from my intel. :(

Super Fly lives! (340SF...S/N 014)(or soon will) CHQ guys remember her. :D Big bad management tied to change Super Fly's tail number to 14...but fate made her stay 340SF. :p
