Hi All,

A good question from over at NWA.

Is it OK for an ALPA MEC officer to take a position as Chief Pilot or even Vice President.

This has happend more often than not at NWA and is raising a lot of eyebrows.

I think that if the ALPA official has integrity is honest and trustworthy then its ok.

But if there is any doubt , then the individual may only be looking to serve their own self interests.

Some question most recently our former DO from leaving the line at NWA and going to Spirit as a VP.

Currently, the winds of change are blowing at NWA, and some ALPA reps may be in this position.

It is wrong. BUT, its the way the world works outside of the airlines. You build your knowledge and skills, then when someone comes along and offers you a better deal, you go. Its nothing more than headhunting.

Just curious -- but when has this happened, and who are you referring to? I can think of one Training Committee chairman who carved out a nice little management niche for himself. Who else are you thinking of?

At the next LEC meeting ask to add a resolution to the by laws not allowing this. They can use Article IX Section 8 and their fining power of the ALPA Constitution to levy fines against those who would break these by laws.

Didn't the MEC chairman of TWA become President of the company?

Yeah sometimes they either promote them or throw them away. It's too much of a risk to throw them back into the pilot pool since they might start running their mouths.

My question for Jetflier was about NWA only; I'm wondering how often this has actually happened at NWA -- at least in the last 20 or 25 years.

Hi All,

Now thats something that I never thought of. Kind of like them joining "the dark side".

I have only been at NWA since 1995 so I can only speak of my time there.

I know that a former MEC chair, nicknamed OC was a system Chief Pilot.

Also that after him that a former union MEC member, and I wont say is name, but it rymes with Peterson, was NWA VP of Ops.

Additional others escape me at this time, as I' too busy trying to stretch my dollars to pay my bills,.......

Don't forget that peterhead crossed our 98 picket line, but because he was in the inner circle the union absolved him of his sin. And to show his character he was behind the recall of current msp fo rep, but did not have the guts to show up at the lec meeting. What a loser! Now, I wonder how long until Occam(or should I say-former msp ca rep) comes to his defense
