I have a 135 job flying a Cessna 404 and 414 about 1200 hours a year. Pay is 40,000 with no benefits. All you 121 guys, would you have left this job to go to your current employer? I just don't want to be 50 years old and still slogin around in the ice and weather in a piston twin, not that there's anything wrong with that if that's what you enjoy. Also, if you love your job let me know where you work. Same goes if you hate it.

Yes, and I did for Air Wisconsin. Need to make a sacrifice earlier than later. Don't get stuck in that job unless that's what you really want to do long term. No bennies? A future family won't like that.

Good Luck.

Well my friend not to get in the subject of your age but there are some considerations you have to factor in. I fly for Pinnacle, flying for a regional isn't all bad but if you have a family to support then it could be a bad option to come here. Upgrades are probably running 4 years here for new hires and you wont see $40,000 flying as a FO until your 6-7th year which is the top off, of course you would have to fly 90 hours a month to do it but it can be done. So upgrading is critical. Although I fly a CRJ out of DTW, some of our routes are so short we dont make it to 10,000 ft. For example, DTW-LAN and DTW-FNT. I say take your pain while your young so you dont have to deal with the BS in the last moments of your career.
:) :D ;)

Think about the future. Do you think your 135 job will be there in 20 or 30 years?

You will take a pay cut if you go to pretty much any airline.

As far as the financials, if you have any debt now, do what ever you can to get out. The last thing that you want is to be making $20,000 and have a large credit card payment every month. Second, make a budget and see where your money is going. When you find where your money is being spent, cut out the spending that is not needed, and try and live on what you would be making your first year at a regional. This way you can see what is in store for you and you will save money at the same time which will help to have during your first few years.

Don't wait too long, seniority is everything.

JJJ said it all,

Stay there if you have deep debt, get your self a 121 job (if that's what you're wanting) asap if you're not drowning.

Also, look into the local corporate boys if so inclined. My buddy has the same time I do (I passing him quickly) we are both CA's and we both fly jets (he's on the Beech Jet, I'm on the EMB) he makes around 70K, I pull in around 50K, he's home every night, I commute, he's on call, I have a schedule.

There are many ways to do it, just look and ask around, you'd be suprised what some people will pay you to fly.

Good luck,

Lazy8s

BTW: I didn't get 40K for flying the 414, so you're not too bad off.
