Going next week. Staying at the Ritz. Havent been there in a while. Anyone have any recommendations for restaurants or other interesting things in Shanghai. We will be there for a few days. We are also going to
Guongsau (sp). Never been there, I know I spelled it wrong, but if you can figure out the name I am trying to write; Hva eyou been there? If you have, any recommendations???

If anyone else is going to be there, PM me, maybe we can meet for a beer somewhere, lol

there is an interesting open air market a couple of blocks down from the hilton. i can't remember the name of it, i'll find it in one of my photos when i'm home in a few days. they have dvds through clothes and about any knock-off you could want, as well as some cool touristy items.

If "Shirley" is your handler in ZSPD have her write down the names of a few good pearl dealers in the old city part of Shanghai (across from Pudong I think). Give that to a cabbie and you wil be where all the shopping is. The ladies in my life (wife, mother, sisters) prefer the black pearls. Of course you can get all the other crap there - $25 breitling watches, etc...fun way to kill an afternoon.

Sorry no more info, we never stay more than 1 or 2 nights...and thats OK.

have fun!

Haven't been to Shanghai but make sure you have plenty of room in your suitcase because going to Guanjo (sp), has anything you could possibly want, for example: Levis for 4-5 dollars, any angle grinders for 30, DVD's 1-2 dollars.

The best place for pearls in Shanghai is Pearl City Just a short walk from the Hilton. The pearl dealers are on the second floor and each has a small booth. Just start talking with one and work your way around. It works better if you can purchase more than one set. The last time I was there I got four sets of 10mm high quality (perfectly round) white pearls for 90 USD each. Each set included a 24" hand strung necklace, a pearl braclet and a set of stud earrings. They have just about any color and quality imaginable. Just shop around and have fun bargining. If you have brothers or brother in laws, you might want to talk with them to see if they want any.

Also the open air market has just about everything. It is quite large, at lesat a sq mile of area. Yes I walked it. My partner in crime bought a set of Ping golf clubs (putter through the drivers, a bag and a travel bag) for 168 USD. But you will have to bargin.

Have fun.
