I changed my username to protect the innocent. I need some advice...

I interviewed and was offered a job this week as a part-time pilot ( I WANT a part-time job so this isn't a temporary thing for me). Good company. Local. Nice people. Great planes and maintenance (it is a corporate PIC turbine job just so you have some specifics).

I just found out that I am pregnant with my second child and I am not too sure what to do. I won't be taking pay or benefits from the company when I am not working so it isn't a matter of stealing money from them, just a matter of having to take off the time to do the baby thing after they have shelled out the bucks to train me. I would plan to go back to flying after the baby though.

So, do I keep my mouth shut and roll with it or should I turn down the job?

You know, we could have told you what causes pregnancy... ;)

Since you won't be showing for awhile, I'd just go ahead and fly for a few months (a friend flew up until her 7th or 8th month, I believe). If you're doing a great job and they like you, they should keep you. If not, well you got the training.

When you hire a female pilot, these things are alway possible. Unless they made you get your tubes tied before training, there's not a lot they can say.TC

Just talk to them and explain things.

yea be up front, they may be impressed with your honesty, and be very understanding. If they are not, then maybe it was not the place to work anyway, which is the same as turning the down the job. By not being upfront the employer may resent it when you finally do let them know and you may then have a spot on your employment history that follows you around.

Call Dr. Laura...

On second thought, she would just tell you to raise your kids or try to make you feel guilty that you weren't a "Stay at home mom."

Oh well, you can't win'em all.

...like she doesn't have a job.

I don't know what State you are in, but in California, a female is under no requirement to inform a potential employer about her being pregnant. If this is the same in your State, then it's completely up to you if you want to inform them ahead of time or not.

Oh god, I'd forgotten she existed.

I'm sure those nightmares are going to come flooding back after this.

PS-- I agree with all the posters who said to be up front. Best policy, y'know.

It's all about you babe...what a grat idea let someone else raise the kid so you can fly part time. Pick a good day care, your kid will pick your old folks home!
