Does anybody have any experience with this headset in a CRJ or any other jet cockpit. It provides only 10dB of active and NO passive attenuation. Can anybody recommend it.

More importantly, is it as good as my Swingline stapler? Because they switched to the Boston ... and ... I used to sit by the window ... I'm going to set the building on fire!

I just Got the HME 45 about 2 months ago when my Sony finally gave up on me. I have been very happy with it. The sound quality is good and it is pleny quiet for the CRJ.

I had the HMEC45 for a while. Maybe I sat between the Garrett sisters a little longer than Metrosheriff did but a lot of my hearing is already shot.

The 45's did a real nice job with low-freq noise but didn't do a DARNED thing about all that high frequency wind and air-conditioning noise in the CRJ. As a result I was wearing both earplugs AND the HMEC45's. As you could imagine, it got a bit frustrating.

I switched to the Bose X late last year and I have mixed emotions.

On the one hand the noise cancelling is far superior. On the other hand the airplane is STILL noisy at low altitudes/high speeds when wind-noise is greatest. And on the third hand I don't particularly care for having a "clamp" over my head (although Bose did a real nice job making them as comfortable as possible for clamp-type headsets).

I think in retrospect the HMEC45's with earplugs were the way to go. But if you don't like wearing earplugs you better consider something else.

It is truly beyond my understanding why the Canadians couldn't have made that thing quieter.

HMEC 45

I've been wearing the HMEC 45 for about four and a half years. I only remove it to shower. It works great for me in 737's. Others that I have flown with have been happy. If I'm not mistaken, Sennheiser offers a 30 day money back guarantee. I tried the HMEC 25 for 30 days and sent it back. Too much like a D.C. headvice.

I have used the 45 for about 4 years now on several aircraft.

It does very well in the mid freq ranges, such as engine noise, but it suffers most in the high range. It does get rid of the loudest wind noise, but you can still hear some of it.

If you get the ones with the cups then it is a different story. They may be a little more expensive, but they work very well. Keep in mind however, the cups do squeeze your head a little. It's not as bad as a conventional headset, but you still feel it.

I have been wearing the 45s about 8 months and I think they were worth the money. They have excellent sound, excellent mic, and are very comfortable. They are actually more comfortable than the company issue lightweight telex.
They don't cancel out all of the noise, but they do take the edge off. You will no longer be turning up the radio volume after take-off. I actually turn down the volume after the noise cancelling is turned on. Earplugs are relatively comfortable underneath them for the days when I get an airplane with whistle.

Hey all,

I have an opportunity to buy the HMEC-45 off of a friend who used it in a 757/767. Since I am just starting out in this business, I REALLY appreciate all of your experiences and feedbacks. THANKS A LOT !
