I am wondering if seniority follows you when moving from a Regional to one of their affiliated Majors. For example, when a person moves from Comair to Delta, is their seniority based on their original Comair hire date, or do they have to start over when they begin at Delta? Also, what about Regionals that are affiliated with, but not owned by, a Major (i.e. SkyWest with Delta and United)?

My sister just received offers from both Comair and SkyWest (I know, rough life), and she hasn't been able to get a definite answer on this one. I thought I'd try to find an answer for her.

Seniority doesn't follow you (normally). New date of hire at next company equals new seniority date. Exceptions would be something like at Eagle with flow-through, but not having worked there I can't speak intelligently about how their seniority system works .

I'd do a search on flow through on this board and read up on the pitfalls/perils of such a system. Not having any firsthand experience I can't speak to them except for from the scuttlebutt on the boards it seems the agreements aren't worth much and may in fact be a hinderance. for example, I think that the American Eagle flow through didn't flow thru very many guys at all, same at COEX. So, I think your sister ought to be considering stuff like quality of life (scheduling, bases, etc) and possible upgrade time rather than some pie in the sky possible flow through. Just my opinion but it doesn't seem like many people are happy with most flow through agreements so it doesn't seem like a wise decision to base which one to go to on anything to do with flowthrough.

I thought coex had about 400 pilots flow through. That doesnt sound too bad. Didnt the coex pilots take some seniority with them to CO for bidding purposes anyway?

At Eagle, when you finish I.O.E. on the jet as captain you are given a senority number at the top of the next AA newhire class. When your 2 years seatlock is up you transfer to AA in a new hire class holding anything that 2 years of senority will give you. Of course this only how it worked for 124 Eagle pilots and the other 400 with numbers are out of luck because AA is not hiring. And wont for some time. Plus it expires in 07 and i'm sure it wont be renewed.

Not only is there no seniority flow through from the regionals to the majors, often it is a hinderance to being hired at that major if you are from their own regional.
As a matter of fact, judging by the recent treatment of furloughed Delta pilots at Comair and the resultant animosity, I wouldn't take a job at Comair if you ever wanted to work at Delta. Even future Comair pilots will probably be tarnished by the sins of the current Comair clan.
Otherwise, tell her congratulations!
