Hey, Gentlemen

Sorry for the rookie question. When one upgrades from FO to CPT, does the seniorty clock start all over again? I.E., FO has, say, 5 yrs at an airline. Upon upgrade to CPT, does his/her seniority revert back to 1 year? or does it remain at 5? Also, do the same rules apply for changing aircraft, i.e., FO in a 737 for x amount of years goes to a 767 as a FO, does clock reset?

Thanks for your time.

Seniority is based stricktly on date of hire...

BUT a 5 year F/O would have a MUCH better schedule than a Capt. who has 5 years of seniority but just upgraded to Capt.

The Seniority is based on set, in the sense that if there are 100 Capt. at a certain base on the same airplane, the most junior guy gets last pick of the schedule... In other words, as far as schedule goes it is usually best to be a very senior F/O as opposed to a very junior Capt.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for that info, Falcon. It does help. Though I see that I didn't communicate my question appropriately. What I was actually curious about was the pay scale. I.E., Let's say a 5 year FO is making $40 per hour and upgrades to CPT. Will he/she be paid the $50 per that the CPT with 1 year of service is paid? or the $65 per that the CPT with 5 years of service is paid?

Thanks again.

Your seniority may move up or down when you make a change such as upgrade but your longevity with the company does not.

So if you are a 5 year FO and upgrade you will be paid as a 5 year Captain.

Thanks much, gents.

Out.

Keep in mind that it depends on the contract. We had a deal that when you upgraded you were locked in 1st year captain pay for the first year, after your year you leaped to the "date of hire" pay.
Managements argument was that a first year captain made a bunch of operational mistakes that cost the company a bunch of money. We got it removed the last contact.

Now that's interesting. **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** those management types.

Wow. One can't say d a m n on this board?
