I have a C172 for sale and a guy from Mexico is interested in buying it. He was told that he will need complete logs, current Annual inspection, ELT inspection, current Weight and Balance data, and a DAR. I'm not sure what a DAR is and he doesn't know either. Does anyone here know? Has anyone had any experience they can pass along in registering a plane in Mexico? The deal is not a for sure thing yet as he is planning on coming up to look at the plane sometime around the first week of April.
Any advice would be appreciated.
And, I am already on the look out for scam artist. This guy sounds legite, especially since he is planning on traveling to me.

A DAR is a "designated airworthiness representative", basically, he is a privatized FAA airworthiness inspector. Your buyer will need him to sign an export certificate of airworthiness, in order for the airplane to be exported to Mexico.

He goes thru the logs and the airplane type certificate data sheet to make sure the airplane meets the original type design.

It goes without saying, but, certified funds are certainly warranted if the deal goes through as planned.

Thanks for the info. I had spoken with a DAR about certifying a homebuilt that I bought. I wasn't sure how he would be connected to exporting a plane but that makes since now that you mention it. I had a only accociated him with homebuilt airplanes.

Average cost for a Export C of A is also about 500.00 or less. Simple can be done in a couple of hours.

No more than 30 days since annual.

It is doubtful that an amateur built DAR will have the qualifications and authority for issuing an export CofA for a type certificated product
