Recently FAA Inspector Philip D. Troutwine was found murdered in Dayton, Ohio. Inspector Troutwine's badge, FAA Credential and two books of "request for flight deck access" forms were found missing. If any person presents them self as Mr. Troutwine and requests either cabin or flight deck access, notify the nearest local law enforcement agency immediately. Under no circumstances allow the individual access to the aircraft.

This story is true. Phil Troutwine went missing back in September. They have had his picture posted at the Dayton Airport for a few weeks now on missing posters. The TV Station reported that his body was found in the trunk of his car and his FAA credentials are missing.

ok, i see the articles about the FAA employee missing, and found, etc. and that his cell phone and wallet are gone. but where is the part about the two books of "request for flight deck access" forms?

does someone have a source to post for that bit of information?

They are gone. I didn't know the guy had been murdered until a few days ago. We have had that info, request forms missing, on our releases. Thursday we had a fed on the jumpseat and he told us about the murder.

The specifics on the credentials and the forms are sensitive, and I'd prefer that the details NOT be published here. Our company was notified by the TSA, and all pilots notified of the credential and the details of the missing forms.

If you have a jumpseat where you can carry an FAA Inspector, ask your company for more inofrmation. If they don't know, have them ask the TSA.

AV8700,

thanks for the reply.. its interesting because we havent seen it yet on our releases. something to look into.

tonyc,

i'm not asking for any sensitive information or specifics. i'm was merely asking for a source to this non-specific fact that the books were missing. i am asking because we do have a jumpseat and havent seen anything about this on our end yet. i intend to talk to my company about it... i dont know about you but when i read things on the internet, i like to try to verify something as much as i can before i go stirring the bees nest up. thanks for trying to help though.

Man in trunk killed by gunshot
Identified as missing Darke County resident

By Lou Grieco

Dayton Daily News

DAYTON | — Philip D. Troutwine, the missing Darke County man whose body was found in a car trunk, died from a gunshot wound to the head, the Montgomery County Coroner's Office said Tuesday.

The coroner's office brought in a forensics dentist Monday to identify Troutwine, 57, who had been missing since Sept. 1.

His body was found Saturday in his plum-colored 1997 Pontiac Bonneville four-door sedan, parked at a West Carrollton apartment complex.

The Darke County Sheriff's Office had asked West Carrollton police to check a suspicious car parked behind the Centerville Park complex, in the 1000 block of Water Tower Lane. The sheriff's office had received a tip, West Carrollton police said.

Troutwine, a Federal Aviation Administration employee, was last seen leaving Dayton International Airport on Sept. 1.

The following day, someone tried to use Troutwine's debit card at a KeyBank automated teller machine at Salem and Litchfield avenues, Dayton police homicide Sgt. Gary White said.

Police have a photo of the person who used the card, and it wasn't Troutwine, White said.

Detectives have identified suspects in Troutwine's disappearance, White said. He declined to say who they are or what police believe happened.

Troutwine, an aviation safety inspector, started working for the FAA in March 1996 at the administration's Columbus office.

He transferred to the Cincinnati office in November 2002, but did a lot of work at Dayton International Airport, said Elizabeth Isham Cory, a FAA spokeswoman.

Cory said Troutwine had a good work record and was a "wonderful employee. We're just very shocked and saddened to hear this."

Darke County officials started investigating after Troutwine's wife, Patricia, called them Sept. 3 to her home outside Ithaca.

After inspecting the car Saturday, West Carrollton police contacted the coroner's office and Dayton police, who already had an active investigation into Troutwine's disappearance.

Anyone with information about Troutwine's disappearance or the body is asked to call White at 333-1190.

Good idea to tack this, but I think this message should be sent out via email to all FlightInfo members (then forwarded to all your pilot buddies). It won't take much effort and it may save lives...

If anyone has any means of doing so, it should MOST CERTAINLY be done.

Simple fix. No feds in the jumpseat until these forms and IDs are found.

About a week ago we had a higher up FAA guy come in to talk to our crews at a leadership workshop and he said that the ID and FAA docs were not taken. He said he knew the guy personally and all that was taken was his wallet and some other things from the car.

Don't know if this has been published anywhere but I'd say he's a VERY reputable source.

Its amazing to see that couple dudes kill their wives and their story becomes international news and talk of the internet. An FAA inspector is found murdered in a car with his credentials possibly stolen and possible hijack, and it doesnt even make the news.

You have to love the American media.

Do you really want the public to have this kind of info. Just when they are starting to fly again.

I like the no Feds on the aircraft thought.
