When people screw up in the airlines, pilots, that is, are they allowed second chances, or is it too hard to emerge unscathed in such a close-knit community where pilots are moving up from regionals about the same time? And is it the PEERS that keep someone from re-establishing themselves in a regional environment.

For those who need small words--Can a pilot mess up big time and still have a career in the regionals and beyond?

How forgiving is the pilot community?

At what level are you saying the pilot screwed up? Are they already at a regional and if so, have they been there over a year with union protection? Are they flight instructing or doing some other type of non-regional flying such as hauling checks?

Second Chance Losers

They usually end up working at the FAA as an Inspector...

I was just curious about a rumor and how it affected the parties involved. I heard about it here--something about Skull and sexual harrassment accusations. So I don't know how long he worked previously, but, I'm guessing he was already at regional levels. So, has he learned and is able to continue a career or is he screwed for the rest of his life and chance of redemption--pilots regularly "harrass" FA's, it's usually just playing-- so did he just piss someone off? The FA's involved probably won't have too much of a problem working again, but are pilots treated the same?

I still here talk of the rumors and "fun" of it all while reading posts? I wonder what's really going on behind the scenes.

And while I'm at it, was the GAUT at the regionals, too?

It wasn't sexual harrassment.. That was his mistress he was banging on the Jet-Bridge...

He also told the Chief Pilot to go Fu%k himself... That probally went over the edge...

Comparing a pilot to a flight attendant with regards to "second chances" would be comparable to saying that a Mercedes drives the same as a Yugo, big difference if you ask me.. The fa's are pretty much a dime a dozen and they do not put nearly the time, training, money, etc, compared to what a pilot has invested by the time he reaches the regional or major level. After reading Regional FA's post I must say that they do bring a lot more "emotion" to work than most pilots. A f/a who was fired will not have nearly as difficult of a time getting a second chance as a pilot would.

As for pilots and second chances, that all depends.. A guy I know personally was fired by COEX then by GLA and is now flying at a smaller regional after making a brief stop at a third carrier before this gig. This really all depends, I think his silver tongue helped but I am sure what he has been able to do thus far is not the norm.

I think there is much more to Skull than what meets the eye, I think his wife had something to do with what happened and supposebly he is fighting this one to the end... I made a previous post and got multiple im's by our lovely fa's who have flown with him and that frequent this board so who really knows the entire story behind this.. I have somewhat of a hard time buying into the whole "jetway" incident but I was not there.. I would be willing to wager any amount of money that this was not really what lead to his firing.. I think if you did some research a fired bottle into an engine during a "test" may answer a few questions that you may still have regarding this.
