It is coming to light that Scott and Steve were setting up for what appeared to be a successful water landing. Eye witnesses have reported that the aircraft appeared under some control as it headed for the water, but a boat was in the path, and the airplane then veered off course and hit the water.

The airplane apparently hit a large rock on impact with the shallow water.

Ditto

As a member of the Colgan family, who knew Scott personally, and flew with him. I can trully believe when faced with those choices that he would make the one he did. I was trully disappointed when i got the news of the accident. Hats off to two courageous pilots.

regarding witnesses in the boat

This morning a Mass. State Trooper called me and told me that he had spoken to the witnesses personaly and confirmed that the plane had been heading straight for them and at the last minute the crew banked the plane avoiding hitting them. The couple did not want to give a press interview and would send a letter to the family to let us know what actually happen. If we hear from them I will post a msg. to what was said but, will respect their privacy.
