Do any of you guys know if there is a training agreement (contract) with Scenic.

What about jump seat priviledges?

Salary?

Thanks

1. Yes
2. Don't know haven't worked there in several years
3. low, I was in the $1300 a month range when I worked there

A goog friend of mine recently interviewed but won't be taking a position because:

Yes, there is a training contract...~7k if you quit before 1 yr
5 on 2 off schedule
no pay gaurantee...if it storms, you don't make $
roughly 12-14k/yr for FO's.
Fixed gear, VFR only??

Prison for pilots if you ask me. What a joke IMHO.

depends on what you're looking for, regarding a decision to work at scenic.
there are so many people on these boards who proclaim they fly because they "love to fly." well, scenic is your answer. you'll fly an airplane. if you love to fly, go fly for them.
yes, it's vfr, fixed gear, etc. not going to make yourself a millionaire doingit, obviously. but, i know a few guys who worked there, and really liked it.
seems to be a fit for someone who isn't of the mind-frame of using it as a stepping stone to something bigger and better, but rather is of the outlook of, i've got a certificate and training and the experience, may as well get paid to fly.

thanks for the response.

Does anybody know if the training contract is pro-rated?

Are there opportunities to work overtime, beyond the normal schedule?

You guys don't know what you're talking about.
There are 100s of pilots that are currently at the majors that got their start flying for Scenic.
Ya it's mostly VFR, and fixed gear in the Otters,
but you tell me were else is a pilot with 1200 hrs going to find a 121 job, flying turbine airplanes, in todays hiring environment.

Are you implying that a jump to the majors is possible from a scenic job? Long term, yes, but I would guess that this kind of job is a stepping stone to a SkyWest, Comair kind of job...nothing more.

All I know is I made a lot more money flight instructing and had a much better quality of life. I saw an advertisement at Taco Bell the other day that said - "Managers 25,000-40,000, paid vacation, 401k, flexable scedule." I wish I had my camera on me. The "where else can someone with 1200 hrs argument" is crap. No one with a college education and the amount of flight training that it takes to get to 1200hrs should have to work for 12k/yr....12k that's not gauranteed with a training contract that keeps your from bailing....aka Prison for pilots.

But, they'll always be some fresh meat who thinks that's an "opportunity" and not a "disgrace".

Flame away.

I disagree.

What about the SkyWest or Comair CRJ FO who already has 4,000 TT 2,000 hours 121 turbo jet time who is still ions away from upgrading to get his 1,000 turbine PIC?

He/She goes to Scenic to bang out those 1,000 turbine PIC instead of waiting 2 years to get upgraded and then another 2 years to get that kind of time being on reserve?? Then wala.....hired by Jet Blue, Southwest, Air Tran, etc., etc.

Am I right or wrong?

I was out at the North Las Vegas airport on tuesday trying to take the Grand Canyon aerial tour with Scenic. There was a Beech 1900 sitting on the ramp with a scenic logo painted on the tail. I wouldn't call that fixed gear! What do you use the 1900 for?

You guys are on crack, a interview at ABC Airlines
Pilot#1- well I have 3,000hrs twin otter time. 135
Pilot#2 - well I have 3,000hrs CRJ time, All 121

Who would you hire?

121

AARON you know who I am and Im telling you man, hang out for that 121 job, you make good money where you are, have patience. Turbine PIC is not as important as 121 turbine PIC, you will have a job at a regional quicker than you will get 1000 turbine PIC at scenic ,and then have to get a job at a regional. Hope all is good with you and AD sorry i wasnt more help with Colgan. Keep plugging man.

First, get the facts straight, Scenic is 121, has been since '96.
They do fly more than the Otter, (1900 and F27).

Second, there are many pilots that went from Scenic straight to a major. Is it the norm, no, but it does happen.

"you can make more at Taco Bell"
If that's your attitude, I suggest you find a different profession. It's no secret that many regional FOs make crap for wages. Should it be that way, no, but that is a different subject. If you want an entry level job with good wages in aviation, I suggest you be a waitress at the airport. My wife's friend makes 36K a year.

"a training contract is prison for pilots
Is it really a lot to ask for you to stay at least a year after the company has spent money to train you? If you have the qualifications to get hired by one of the larger regionals than do it. But in todays hiring environment to be competitive you need a lot more than 1200 hours. So for the lower time pilots getting a job at Scenic is a good deal and a good first airline job. I know a lot of Scenic pilots that came from flight instructing and not one of them would choose to go back to flight instructing even if they were making more money.
Which do think is better for career advancement:
Spend the next year flight instructing or an FO at a 121 airline flying turbine equipment?
