Attacking Iran could be a disaster. If we decide to do it, however, it's time to reject the "Powell Doctrine" of "if you break it, you buy it." We don't have the manpower, will, or time to occupy the country. We'd just have to bomb the snot out of it and leave it to them to rebuild it. Of course, more people would hate us but that's nothing new. At least they wouldn't have the means to act on that hate. Once they rebuild in 20 years, we'd just have to bomb them again and again until they have an attitude adjustment.

Don't you think we could take out their nuke processing capability without taking out their Centers of Gravity? Or we could select the CGs which leave their country and infrastructure intact but remove their ability to wage a war much beyond their borders...thereby relegating them to a 4th world country again.
Thoughts?

The only downside to that is that they have a pretty decent military who probably wouldn't draw the line at a quick bombing campaign on our part. No doubt we could quickly and surgically damage thier ability to wage war, but what about the aftermath? I don't think the Iranians would stop just b/c we bombed them a couple of times. As far as the nuke problem, I keep reading that their plants are well hidden, well fortified, and would be extremely difficult to knock out with a bombing campaign. I just have a feeling that Iraq would be considered a cakewalk compared to Iran if we don't do it right, by which I mean total war against their military. Don't stop til the military is gone, then leave the country for them to rebuild. No occupation means no insurgency.
