Anybody here been to San Jose in Costa Rica (MROC)? Any info on going in and out of there would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Fun place. It's been about 3 years since I've been there. I highly suggest getting a handler there. Maybe somebody else can give you a recommendation, since I never had any part in setting up a handler....my company did it. I spent 4 days there waiting for a new starter to be shipped in after ours took a dive. The handler hooked us up with a chick that worked for a scuba shop and she took us to the coast for some diving....VERY NICE!

How long are you going to be there?

BTW, if there is anything on your airplane(like a nosewheel steering pin) that could be easily removed and keep you there.....hide it or take it with you. It may disappear while you're gone, but, on the bright side....some airport local will just happen to have one for your exact airplane for sale! :D

Get out of San Jose if you can, not much going on there but a lot of petty crime. Rent a 4WD vehicle (the roads are pretty bad in some places) and drive down to the Pacific coast (about 2 to 3 hours drive depending on where you want to stay). There are a lot of great places to stay, it is cheap and beautiful. I recommend the Hotel Si Como No in Quepos(SP).

Definately use a handler. There is no FBO. You will park on a ramp at the west end of the field and without a handler, I'm not sure how you would even get off the field.
It goes without saying, review the star and approaches, and pay perticular attention to the mocas: rocks in the clouds at 10-12000 feet on three sides of the field.
If you stay in San Jose, stay at the Mariott. It is one of my favorite hotels anywhere.I agree with the posts above, drive down to the beach and check it out. Also, drive up to the volcano. You can walk right up to the edge and look into the caldera. It is really cool...

Thanks for all the good info guys. We've got the handler taken care of but we'll only be there for one night anyway so we shouldn't have too many problems.

Thanks again.

Got an empty seat?;) Alajuela is a better place to stay if your in the city.
Just my thoughts. Friendly Ticas! Have fun.
