Has anyone heard anything about San Jacinto's aviation program?

I heard a couple of years ago that it wasn't producing very good fruit. Just wondering if that's changed.

Heard the same thing. Also they flight environment isnt that great for training either. To busy for teaching. I went to check San Jack out when i was looking for a school and wasnt impressed. It was between them and TSTC in waco and i choose TSTC. Texas State Technical College Waco worked out perfect for training. Big airport lots of practise area and a buch of good approaches to be used for the instrument training. www.theflightcollege.com
I remember getting in 4 approaches in 1 hour full procedure. Get alot of training in in a short amount of time.

It did however get hecktic at TSTC when Air Force One came in and the TFRs went up. over all it was a good experiance.

I went through the COEX program there and I was not overly happy about the training provided at Cliff Hyde so I decided to do the flight portion of my training at Fletcher and use the program strictly for the class work. I do not think you are given that option present day as they have changed many things in the time since I completed the program. The college class set up was good but the flight training portion of it leaves a lot to be desired. Pm me should you have any specific questions pertaining to the program.

I did some training with Cliff Hyde and San Jac. San Jac was not too bad. I enjoyed the classes i.e. Aerodynamics, Meteorology.

Cliff Hyde was over-inundated with students. I had to complete my instrument training with 6 a.m. flights (schedule was full).

I don't know how it is now though........

Sounds like the same stuff I've been hearing. School=good, Flight Training=bad

That is pretty much right on the mark. A few highly experienced ex-Pan Am drivers, former CO drivers, and a nice mix of other folks that teach the classes who know their stuff. First position I was ever offered was a 1900 ground instructor position there and I think that offer was solely due to those who I had met during my time there. The days of Dresser are over, times change, so talk to current or recent grads of the program.

When I left San Jac, I had a few classes with an ex-Delta Captain. He flew 767's from DFW to Europe. He knew his stuff.

From what I heard, San Jac is taking bids to affiliate with a new flight school.

I've been hearing that too.

United Flight Systems out at KDWH, was a posibility last I heard. Only thing that wouldn't make a lot of sense about that is that its pretty far away from the main campus.

When I was there, we were desperately pushing to be able to train at an airport of our choice (with a syllabus provided by San Jac).

We were not successful in our plight......

But ideally, I think a student there should be able to train at whatever airport they choose, provided the flight school is on the same page at San Jac.....
