SAN $20B Floating Airport

Why

Why does SAN need a bigger airport? That's what LAX is for. Build a highspeed train from SAN to LAX perhaps, but why mess with SAN just to have a bigger runway?

yes because the only thing wrong with lindberg is the runway size. those 8 gates in 2000 square feet of that lollipop terminal are just perfect for our customers. one of the worst terminal set ups in the system.

maybe charge by slot, then there will be fewer RJs and 1900s flying in. it is fine for now but san diego isn't getting any smaller and lindberg is about maxed out as it is.

and highspeed trains are great for highspeed train builders and operators. the rest of us pay through the nose for worse service. basically the airlines will end up funding any highspeed trains that are built in this country through our fuel and other taxes.

Brown Field was also a good alternative, but it would only be a matter time before someone put down in TJ International which is a mile or 2 south and looks the same from the air.

The Kansai airport was built by dumping rock and fill into the bay thus bringing it above sea level. It is slowly sinking. The terminal was built on jacks, so I guess that part "floats". Unfortunately it cannot be jacked any higher so an alternative idea is being planned.
