Does anyone have any input on what pilots must do in the descent phase of flights in RVSM A-space.E.g. a certain rate of descent or what?

You might have misread that. The instruction was no more than that within 1,000 feet of leveling off. Most likely to help reduce overshoots and RAs. If you are not going to stop in RVSM airspace go as fast up or down as you like.

Find a new instructor, thats simply not true. Is this a company policy. If coming down from FL380 to FL310 ATC isn't going to care for 1000 fpm very much.

No, it is not a company policy. In fact, we have asked SimCom(the originator of the info) for reference, but I've not heard backfrom them yet. Any kind specified rate of climb/descent soundsdubious from an ATC perspective. The expected minimum descent isthree degrees, with that in mind your rate of descent will vary withground speed.

Who knows, maybe there was a chain of misunderstandings. This wholeDRVSM process seems a little forced and therefore has suffered aninformation exchange gap. We'll all catch up, eventually.

It's no more than 1000fpm climb/descent rate for the last 1,000ft while in RVSM airspace. Climb/descend as fast as you like any other time.

I second it

Just let the autopilot do it's job in the same modes as you usually use - no specific requirements of how you use it as long as you do the altimeter checks and the A/P don't overshoot.
At least one automatic altitude control system (Autopilot) is required for RVSM airspace operation.
