How many of you guys would recommend going Guard and ROTC at once? Ive read a post that says you can do it, then after 4 years choose whats best. Is this really even possible, I know some people really dont know what theyre talkin about.

Would they conflict with each other, and if I was to do Guard on top of ROTC with school, would I want to tell my CC?

Right now I plan to start college and ROTC spring Semester at Saint Louis University. There is an ANG base located at the airport right there in Saint Louis so it would be convenient. However I cant find out alot of information on the guard like when to I would do boot camp, and how I do school with it. Really I have no clue what it entails and Ive searched like crazy so if someone could really help me out and fill me in thatd be great.

Nevermind, found my own answer.

Q: Can I go through Air Force ROTC and then participate in an Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard unit?
A: No. Air Force ROTCs mission is to train officers for the active duty force. Contact your nearest Guard/Reserve recruiter for information on commissioning opportunities in the Air National Guard and/or Air Force Reserve

I guess some of the guys over on Baseops dont know what theyre talking about

I did a couple of semesters of AFROTC but never contracted. You can be in the Guard and take AFROTC classes, but you cannot be contracted with both at the same time.

During my year of AFROTC I saw a lot more hearts broken than not. Out of 15 who wanted pilot slots 4 got them. When the time came for me to contract I decided not to take the chance, and looked for other options. I got my slot with the Guard.

My advice, (which is worth very little as I'm just waiting to go to UPT and most of the guys around here are accomplished military pilots already) is to go Guard. I bet you hear the same from some of the others...

Good luck

Well it's yes and no.... AFROTC and ANG... NO...... ROTC and ARNG YES.. it's called SMP Program and you get e-5 pay while you are in the guard... you will be trained as a staffer and attached to the unit's commander as his/her paperwork lackey. it also helps with you're time in service reqs and starts that all important building of time torwards retirement.. FWIW

Do you want to spend your entire college career in uniform? Then do both. You are better off concentrating on either one seperately. My college roommate did both and got what he wanted, but worked alot harder to get it than other people that got to the same place. Out of my four buds that went guard in their local area and interviewed with their home units, each one was selected and are currently in various stages of training. Also, at each guard interview i attended the selectees were all prior service, most of them from that same unit.
