I seldom read in aviation magazines and other articles about stories of pilots detailing their memorable romantic flights with their wives or girlfriends. I'm very surprised that more pilots don't talk about this. You'd think they would just because pilots seem like the type of guys to want to share this with thier significant other. I'm working on my Private certificate and have always dreamed of such a adreline rushing flight where my girlfriend and I drive to the airport on the rainiest, gray day of the year, hop into my tin bird pickup an IFR clearance takeoff and 10 min later break out on top of all the dreary weather into clear blue skies!! I can't imagine anything more thrilling than that! I'd feel like a 6 year old boy opening my presents on Christmas day!! It would seem like I'm floating in my spaceship above the ailen world of some far off land among the "cotten billows" even though intellectually I'd be thinking about how rusty my IFR skills are working the ATC system and navigating. I'd feel like a 6 year old boy opening my presents on Christmas day!! Although as fun as that sounds, I'd have to be constantly listening to ATC, tracking a VOR radial holding alt and hdg, copying clearances, etc. As I'm writing this though I feel almost as good because the RED SOX have just WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!! 86 YRS is a long time!!!

Anyway I'm kind of dreaming but I'd like to hear some of your stories about romantic flying dates. What I mentioned about for some reason really gets my adreline pumping! I'd sure like to know too if anyone here has actually gotten this thrill!

My first date with my fiancee included a flight in my 172. It was a beautiful, cold, clear january night, with a full moon! We took off and saw the colorful runway lights, the orange city lights, and of course the shadow outlines of the snowy mountains in the moonlight. It was truly one of the most spectacular flights ever. I happened to have "fly me to the moon" by Frank Sinatra on my ipod, which made it even better.
We are working on her Private together, and getting married next summer :D :D

About 2-3 years ago at the Aurora airport a couple of newly weds chartered a twin cessna for a flight over the Willamette Valley. Apparently they both worked and couldn't get away for their honeymoon, so they decided to do the "Mile High Club" thing.

Of course events of this magnitude don't come along very often in the Northwest (and the story leaked to the news media), so it came as no surprise that a couple of news choppers were on hand to cover the story live as it unfolded.

I swear I'm not making this up.

I took my girlfriend for a tour of the valley. We both skipped school and we flew over her house a few times. She was pretty impressed, having never been a plane, let alone a 150.

All the best.

I took my wife up this last 4th of July over Portland to watch the fireworks displays.

Wow, what an amazing view. Vancouver always has a large display, but it was all the other smaller shows (probably ten or so) that were neat to watch. Add to that all of the illegal fireworks people were setting off in their back yards and the sky below us was really lit up. Definately a must do for next year.

Surprisingly there was very little traffic out. We stayed at 5500 MSL and heard only one other private a/c on the approach frequency.

Spectacular.

I took my girlfriend up when i got my private and her excitement fostered our relationship. She was so happy as she reached over and held my hand as we floated around like birds in the sky.

Then i had to go back home to my wife and kids.

how gay can you get???

You're wanting to discuss romance with other male pilots? C'mon man...I don't know about anyone else, but this don't exactly give me that "warm fuzzy feeling".

As far as bagging skag...airplanes work pretty good, if you have to go that route. Gotta love flying pipers...that trim wheel makes an easy transition to slide your hand over to her thigh :P If she objects, you can always say you "missed" the wheel, 'cause you were really busy, and it takes sooo much concentration to fly.

I flew a girl from wichita falls tx down to dallas Addison airport one evening and took her to magic time machine for dinner. I didnt tell her what we were doing, just told her we had plans for the evening.

However about 5 miles out from landing back the home airport, I heard the engine sputter, and I had forgotten to switch tanks in the cherokee 140. Once I rectified that, the engine quickly came back to life, and we landed uneventfully. I still had barely over 200 hours then, so it was a learning experience, and we dated the next 7 months

I think that I took my wife flying on our 2nd or 3rd date. I gave her her engagement ring in a Stinson 108-3 Station Wagon while we were flying over a city looking at the lights. Probably not the most romantic thing to do, but it seemed to work. It was over 32 years ago and we're still married.

Hahahaha...

Oh well, I was already married when I took up flying...so every flight with the wife is a romantic flight, right? :D

I must admit, my wife's a trooper. We rented an Aztec from the boss to go down to Sarasota for Y2K. On the way back from FLA, she was able to keep her composure as one of the skydiver, a/p, commercial pilot passengers lost his super sized Quesedia from the Taco Bell we stopped at while refueling in Chat-nooooga. Rooooooooy! Hey, ROOOOOOOOY! What ya dooooin back dere? We never let him forget!

Flying in to NYC (TEB) the first time, at night, broke out of the clouds at about 4000, the City straight ahead. A beautiful sight, even with WTC gone. I'll never forget it.

First flight after getting my IFR, broke out of the clouds at about 1000 AGL, runway straight ahead, boy was she impressed.

I took a girlfriend back in college up for a early evening flight. Just tooled around over the farmfields, watched the sun set, and made out a bit in the pattern! It was a lot of fun.

My current girlfriend came along on one of my overnights while I was flying a trip at my former company. She was really excited with the whole thing, especially since we were in a really nice hotel in a great city. I'll probably do the same thing again sometime when I get a line and some good layovers. She has said many times how much she likes being able to experience what I do for a living. Maybe I should take her on a reduced rest overnight in Halifax when it's 25 below. ;)

I guess the only one I have is after the fact. A couple had come out to the airport wanting to inquire about plane rides for the kiddies etc. and I was going up anyhow so I said just come along with me. Well.....in a day or two the guy shows up wanting to take me to get sloshed and so after wrestling with the idea for 2.5 milliseconds I decided to go. I became far to inebriated to drive home and so he offered to let me stay at his place. As we were pulling into the driveway he said something about "did I go both ways" or something. "WHOOOOT WHOOOOOOT" (intruder alert!) I set my phaser to kill and said "No thanks I don't do guys!" In short I don't do the doo doo...haha. Anyway he said "thats ok, my wife would like to be with you." (Phaser into handy side holster). So I had to let him watch while I serviced his wife for the remainder of the evening and then slept in his bed...lol....(shaking head).....hey I was young. ;)

I'd sure as hell like to join the mile high club one of these days, even in a Cessna 150! BTW I feel the only true MHC members are the ones who are acting as PIC while doing it. The passengers sneaking to the Lav on red eye flights to claim membership simply in my eyes don't count. I found the ultimate website for this as well as a couple who won a Darwin award while attempting MHC "manuvers". LOL! Check out these links!

Even if the cabin's pressure altitude is over 5280'?

I took my girlfriend/fiance/wife (a good progression) flying several times. It would've been great but she got nausea or fell asleep every time. When I was a new (single) CFI I had a great looking college girl as a student who grabbed hold of me (in a 152) when I demonstrated steep turns and stalls and what not. I'd like to think it was my looks and charm but probably it was just bad airwork.

I took a girlfriend in a Cessna 140 from Longview, Tx down to the coast and followed it to a little abandoned strip on the gulf. On the way down I mastered the art of making out with my eyes open keeping one wing above the horizon. If the wing doesn't go up an down the airplane isn't going to turn. Held a pretty good heading. We had lunch in the sand dunes and made out some more. We then flew back to Longview stopping somewhere for fuel. It must have worked as I am married to the same women today almost 30 years later. it works try it.....

So, does anybody know where, in the ntsb accident database to find the accident that occurred (I remember at least one) during a mile high initiation? I'm a bit stumped as to what terms to use in the ntsb's search function :o .
Be careful out there.

I took my wife on her first trip to a small airport for lunch (MGJ) and she was amazed but later admitted she was a bit nervous. I then took her to Block Island for lunch (BID) and as we sat on the beach she said - "you know I could get used to this!"

Now - she just finished her pinch hitter course - and is now looking to take lessons!

Nice to have a flying partner !

Rumpletumbler....

Looks Like the two Johns are getting ready to get back on their 757 for a make-out session...talk about romantic;)

Good One Jim!

Yeah, The tail number of the aircraft was N47506. If you key that in as the registration you should be able to find it. It was sometime in 1991 so be sure to set the date range as well.
