Hey fellas (and ladies),

I've been having some back problems and need to get a roller board that is lighter than the Purdy bag I've been using for a long time. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for the input.

Costco has a pretty light one for about $100. The best thing about it was an unlimited return policy. It seems like I heard they revamped their return policy recently though so I'm not sure it's still worthwhile.

Personally, I had a travel pro for 7 years and other than new handles (which they replaced for free) and wheels (rollerblade wheels and bearings are the way to go) it held up fine. I tend to take above average care of my things but it survived some commuting in there too. I only finally ditched it because the handle broke for about the 5th time and it was old enough they didn't make the same style handle anymore. It was a step above the standard crew model so I'm not sure how much of an effect that had on it's survivability.

They're both much lighter than the tote-a-tank, but won't fair as well in a tug collision.

buy the ABS plastic model.........Had it for 9 years at a regional it is light as all get out and stronger than the metal tank....IMHO

Maybe he needs a new skateboard?

I was flying on US Airways yesterday (very nice flight - very friendly crew/staff), and a pilot in uniform gets on the plane (he is not working) and is carrying his skateboard. It would have been cool if he rode it down the aisle.

I like the Costco bag also.

Isn't it a "Roll Aboard"?

Actually, I think TravelPro calls theirs "Roll-A-Board".
They were the inventor's of the wheeled suitcase.

When us TWAers became AAers we noticed Americans tendency to rename things. Pilot bag or navkit became "Kitbag". The whole industry says: "Jetway". AA? "Jetbridge".

At AA Roll-A-Board became "Rollerboard". No S**t, that's on signs in one of the mini-crew ops at ORD; "Rollerboard storage".

FWIW,

Costco's newest rollerboard version is not as well built as the previous models. I have always used a Costco bag and had never had a problem returning one for an 'upgrade'. One look at the new version and I knew it would not make it thru the first week let alone the first month. I have switched to the Purdy neat bag, have not been dissapointed.

strongbags.com

I like the Strongbags.com R...board!:)

It is like the PNS bag, ubt no pockets on the sides. It is lighter and all the parts are replaceable at home with a screw driver.

It is very well balanced and rolls nicely.

I have used their products for over 2 years now.

Jeff

PS: most airlines get a 10% discount on the coupon code: Allegiant

Cannibalize a PNT bag, and replace the steel frame with one laid up out of carbon fiber. That should be light.

At the risk of sounding like an old guy lets go back to 1988.

I was a new hire at TWA and the pilots were still carrying their suitcases around by the handles. The Flt Attendants were using "wheelies", those heavy chrome plated steel folding things with wheels on the bottom. They used bungee cords to hold the suitcases in place. You had to take it all apart going through security! Back together on the other side!

About then TravelPro came out with the Roll-a-board and the wheelies were thrown into the trash. It was such a good idea even the pilots started using them!

Had back problems too...switched to the plastic version when it came time to replace...helped quite a bit.

Bingo

You just described the Stongbags.com

It's like the PNT, but lighter material.

Skyway bags

Those old bags were made by SKYWAY. i HAD ONE AND USED THE WHEELIES UNTIL THE BUNGEES CRUSHED THE BAG OVER TIME.

Old school!

Let it roll!
