Leave it to the French to do everything differently.
 
Didn't you know, all Air France aircraft have their throttle mounted as a rotatable dial on the console, just below the FMS. It's part of the French philosophy to remove the pilots' inputs from the flight deck and minimize anything that the pilot might want to grab. Airbus yokes are another example of this minimization effort.

Put it off to the side, and make it small. The French prefer small appendages. :)
