For any Kent State grads:

I have recently been moved after seeing Schwabe in relatively poor health to spearhead and effort to establish a Richard F. Schwabe endowed Scholarship fund at the university for aviation students.

If you are in a position to and feel like you would like to add to the effort, please send donations to:

Richard F. Schwabe Fund
C/o Chris Hall,
College of Technology
108 A Van Deusen Hall
Kent State University
Kent, OH 44242-0001

write: "Richard F. Schwabe Fund" on the memo line of the check.

Thanks and please forward this information to other alumni you may know as well!

Mike Keller (class of 97)

One of Schwabe's "boys"

If you have any questions or want to relay contact information on any fellow alumni, you can contact me at: [email protected] or you can send me a private message here on flightinfo.com

Although not a Kent State Grad, I took my private and instrument with him some years back. He was crusty back then! Quite the pilot & quite a man...

"It's all about situational awareness" as an Oreo smacks you in the face....

Not a Kent grad either, but I worked "next door" for awhile a few years ago. He'd come in every afternoon like clockwork, rain or shine, chat with the secretary for a few minutes, then come back into the instructors' office and ask, "anybody back here know anything about flying?" I've also heard some pretty darn funny stories about him from his examiner days.

He's a great guy, sorry to hear he's not doing well.
