On vacation for a week in Germany figured I would go and save a little on some food but was told I needed a customs card and pay 19% German tax. I called the local customs office and they said that is just for American retirees LIVING in Germany and a retiree on vacation can't get a customs card. Thought I would give others a heads up so you won't waste time trying like I did.
