Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone, new hire or oldie, could pass along the latest expected reserve times for some of the most talked about regionals and their respective domiciles:

Eagle
ASA
AWAC
Comair
Express
Mesa
Sky West
ACA
Mesaba
Pen

This is a huge QOL issue that I don't think has been addressed and weighs heavily in a decision as to who I might work for.

Thanks...Jetski

Hired at AWAC early this year. ORD based. Guaranteed days off = 12 (all reserve lines have 12 days off).

Two and a half months of reserve before holding a line. If you were hired today, I would guess that you would sit reserve for longer than that though. How long i'm not sure.

Pinnacle

It depends on where you want to be based...

DTW and MEM are the shortest (for now) with maybe 2 months of reserve.

MSP will be around 6 months. With the amount of new hires though.. I would expect DTW to climb back to the 8 + month or better range. MEM maybe the 3-4 month range.

Reserves get 10 days off, with at least 2 days per reserve period being airport reserve.

Reserves could get the few 12 day off lines, but they are ALL airport reserve.

At Mesaba, the junior base for both planes is MEM. The most senior reserves in the saab were hired in 2001 and for the jet it was the summer/fall of 2000.

There's no "time" on reserve. Most airlines keep the bottom 20-30% of a given list as reserve. Considering half the company are captains then I would say that a given company needs to grow by 10-15% to get you just off reserve. Of course, this doesnt take into account attrition (which is about nil right now).
I am a comair new hire. They plan on hiring another 90 by the end of one year. I have 30 already under me. 120 from the bottom will not get me off reserve. After that its a standstill baby! Losing maybe 20-30 pilots a year to attrition. Somethings gotta give, or I'll be on reserve for years.
Upgrade? ha! I hear specualtion. Lets put it this way. EIther we grow or I wait until 900 pilots step out of the way. Sobering huh. At least I have the QOL and pride of working under a very good contract.

upgrade times

Don't sweat it AgonyAir,

At least those of us who came from the disfunctional US Airways family are accustomed to astronomically long upgrades.

Upgrade in 10 years? We could do that standing on our heads! When you start furloughing back to the mid-90s then come talk to us!

:D

Reserve and Upgrade Times

Reserve in the Beech @ Mesa is non existant for FO's. The Street CA's in the Dash and the Semi Street CA's (less then six months with the company) in the Beech are sitting reserve for a couple of months from the looks of it. Reserve for FO's in the Jet is up to a month or two. I was hired in November and I have 400 under me on the seniority list out of approx 1800. We are running a Jet class a month (30 pilots) with another dash or beech class thrown in most months. With this said, if you are looking for QOL, Mesa is NOT THE PLACE TO BE. Good luck!

Eagle

I am on the Saab in DFW....hired in Jan. I got to the line in mid-March and have been on reserve ever since. So that's about 2 and a half months now. I'm hoping to hold a line in June's bid but won't know until the 20th. The guy 3 numbers above me is holding a day-trip line so I guess we'll see!

SkyWest Reserve - Houston, Tx

Reserve is quick in IAH, the most Jr. EMB domicile. I spent 3 days on reserve and I think other in my class only spent a couple of weeks. I'm not sure about the other domiciles.

Eagle/LAX

I was on reserve for 4 months, then got a relief line for April. That was great. Then the schedule changed and people shifted their bids, so I got reserve again for May but I am near the top. My friends in DFW are holding lines. This June I expect to get it again as the flying has been reduced out of LAX (because we are so short Captains I hear) and the next class of upgrades won't hit the line until July. By summers end I will be holding a line for sure though. In base, I have a dozen under me since January with more are still coming in.

Seems most new hires are getting jet slots, and we are hiring over 500 this year, so I bet the jet F/Os won't be on reserve too long either. At least if you aren't in one of the last few classes anyway!
