I was wondering if any USAF reservists could tell how they are doing with respect to man days. My unit is not activated, and has not been this year, and we have had a couple of months (with more promised) were we are only getting UTAs and 2 double AFTP. Beyond that we have no local work, flying or otherwise.

I think that this is a problem with the leadership at my unit, but I was wondering how the other units are doing (especially reserve Kc-135 units).

Thanks

Thats the way it is with my unit. I'm in AFSOC and we deactivated back in September. There has been no money for mandays since then. Flyers have them but thats about it. No one else gets mandays lately.

My unit is in pretty much the same boat.

Oddly enough, everybody got mandays for the wing change of command ceremony. Hmmm...

Mandays

Must be your leadership? I take it, from your sig, that you fly tankers? EVERYONE needs tankers now. I cannot believe yall aren't getting MPA days out the ying yang. I left the SPEC OPS reserves because of the lack of $. Now I am in AMC and have more work than I want.
Go to the ARPC web page and look for TDYs. Guys I know have been getting man days for CONUS and Europe TDYs left and right.

Continous mandays

If your unit is running out of mandays, one option is going to a combatant command (i.e CENTAF, CENTCOM) and trough there, but it may require going "forward". You'd be surprised at the number of reserve/guard people out here. All the guys (except for me) who work our desk (forward and at the rear) are furloughed airline dudes on continuous orders who have maxed out their unit's self-induced manday restriction. It's the old "different pot of money" thing.
It's joint staff work but I'm enjoying the experience. Normally, the guys from flying guard/reserve units are on orders for less than 45 days so they can go back to their respective units and update their landing currency. Then, they come back out for more continous mandays.
Oh, the shwarmas are average here :D .

Reserve man-days (RPA) are almost non-existent. However, there is an almost unlimited supply of man-days paid for by active duty (MPA). The caveat is that you have to be doing something to support the active duty.

At my base (McGuire) we have several crews sitting rotating bravo alert for the Northeast Tanker Task Force (TTF). These guys are all on long term (3 months+) MPA tours. The alert is sat at home (the response time to McGuire is an hour, or so). The TTF staff is also all reserve.

We also have (or have had, in the past) guys sit tours as Duty Officer in our associate active duty command post, getting paid MPA one or two days at a time.

I teach IRC (to both the reserves and active duty) up to 3 or 4 times per month, and get MPA every time I teach.

We've had other guys manage to get MPA (and even RPA) for other more creative things.

The MPA is virtually unlimited for stuff like this.
