Alright guys - I know this seems a little strange, but I need some input from fellow pilots. I have to crank out a pretty lengthy research paper for completion of my BA. The project spans an entire year. I want to write it on a problem facing the corporate aviation industry and need ideas. I've thought about corporate security, DCA access, etc.

Any thoughts?

... a problem facing the corporate aviation industry ...

Catering!

User fees is an issue that's heating up. The air carriers are pushing it, saying they shoulder a disproportionate burden of fees and taxes to support the system -- while GA is not paying its fair share.

How about bringing anti-trust lawsuits against Signature where they are the only FBO on the field and charge you 600 bucks to drop somebody off....

How about insurance companies. They are playing the tune that we all have to dance to.

CRM could be another one.....

Goof balls that run flight department.

The old timers that were treated like crap when they were young and feel that it is now a right of passage.

ie - duty days that exceed 14 hours with only 2 crew members
- international long haul with only 2 pilots crossing mulitple time zones
- Lack of standardization within a multiple aircraft/pilot flight department.
- Lack of scheduled time off

Some possible ideas for you:

- the effect of VLJ's on corporate departments
- security as it relates to international operations
- flight and duty limits, possibly to include suggested or proposed changes
- effect of new avionics on crew performance and safety

Good luck with your paper.

I agree with the catering suggestion. Rudy's fruit tray "famous dipping sauce" isn't as dip-licious, nor dip-tastic, as it used to be.

Anyway, fatigue and duty/rest is a good topic. There is a very good NASA research paper called "Crew Factors in Flight Operations XIII: A Survey of Fatigue Factors in Corporate/Executive Aviation Operations" that is an excellent starting place for a paper like that. Might provide a good backbone for your project if you choose that area of research.

fatigue is a big hot ticket item right now....there is alot of research available for your work.

that might work.

Fatigue is certainly an issue as more and more depts are going with long range aircraft capable of 13+hrs and 6000+nm. Plus the speed of business today no longer allows the plane to stop for 12hrs and rest...

I still run into the occasional stallar outfit that flies them from NY-China with 2 pilots.

Much info out there concerning cicadian rhythms, etc....

I did my Master's paper on the difference between fixed wing and helo accident rates as flight experience for the average pilot increases. Helo pilots actually have a higher accident as they get more experienced, the reverse of fixed wing guys. It has to do with the more experienced guys getting the more dangerous missions, i.e. medevac, logging, etc. Of course this is purely civilian. PM me if you want more info, like my whole paper. I don't care, its been years since I wrote it.

You know, it's a true friend who will let you plagerize his term paper... :D

G200--Come on and spill the beans--who's going to China with two guys? Someone based in Oxford, CT? No, sorry, they only did Dallas to Shanghai with two...

I've done LAX-CPH and IND-IST with two but that was brutal.

I like the user fee idea. I don't know if the concept is developed enough to get a term paper out of it, though. Good luck.TC

How about pilots loose basic flying skill in modern airplanes due to automation?

becuase thats a myth.

You gotta understand YIP, there isn't too many steam gauge and broken autopilot airplanes out there anymore.

DC9s and DA20s are boneyard dinosaurs man. Good a/c for their time, Im sure, but lets get with the 90s here. Primary private students are learning on glass - and thats a good thing.

Hey he was looking for ideas, I am just giving ideas. Besides we have had the real men fly steam dails post before
