Can anyone give me some info on the J4J at republic. The information that was recently sent was lacking some stuff and I lost the paper anyhow.

Thanks in advance

The Nov. 6th class has already closed. There is no announcement for the next class at this time. If you are considering it, pm me and I can forward you the info you lost...

Odd, Charmaine called and offered NOV 6 CAPT. and I have until tomorrow at noon to decide. Hopefully the class isn't totally closed, if so no biggy I was just weighing my options.

please fwd any info you have if you are so inclined.

Thanks.

Here is the big hits:

1. pay = year 1 Capt = 57.39 for the 170 and 63.12 for the 175

2. pay is 125 per week for the first month (30 days) then 75 hr gar. after

(the guys that came right from MDA to Rep after the arbitration were paid 75 hr. garuntee from the start however US Air did not let then collect furlough pay)

3. hotel is shared while in training

4. space avail to and from training

5. health/dental is thru Great West PPO - 30 per pay single person up to 103 per pay family

6. Vision - paid exam plus 125 for glasses

7. 401k - 1 to 6 years 100% of first 2.5, this kind of sucks but their funds are way better than Fidelity at US Air - I'm rolling my 401K (about 50K) from Allegheny and US Air/MDA into this 401K.

-----------------

Now here is the kicker. And don't shoot the messenger, I'm just fwd what i know/have been told. Those of you that come now are from the APL list (even thoes that were at MDA) and are subject to regular J4J rules. This means no senority order integration the way we did it when MDA was being dismanteled. Thus if you come as a Capt you will be below that most junior J4J Capt. already here no matter what your APL senority is. This means that if i upgrade I will retain my relative position however you will be junior to me even though you are senior on the APL. Again don't shoot the messenger, just repeating the J4J stuff and what i've been told.

Similar to the local St. Louis McDonald's 3rd year managers salary. Why do do continue to do it?

Thanks for the info I'm Aug 99 hire. Gonna have to turn it down for those wages and "benefits" I need the PIC time but not THAT bad.

Thanks

I was considering it this time (I could use the turbine PIC as well). After comparing it to what I can make in my current position I figure I would net about $600-800/mo more in exchange for the stress of commuting to reserve and missing my family. I don't think so Tim.

Hey guys,
Pardon my ignorance..... can someone break down for me how J4J works exactly? Thanks.

Short Version:

Back in 02 when USAir decided to park 150+ mainline airplanes in favor of moving the routes to RJ's at the regionals flown by pilots at less than half the payrate, they came up with a deal where any airline that wanted to be the reciepients of large numbers of RJ's had to agree to put USAir furloughees in at least 50% of the Capt. seats. Hence the name "Jets for Jobs"

At the time USAir only had a limited number of RJ's at the regionals, and through BK process most of the remaining scope that the mainline MEC had in place was stripped away, along with retirement and anything else that mgmt. could get their hands on. Net result was 1800+ USAir pilots jobs were transferred to regionals by moving the 737, and F-100 flying to RJ's.

End result is that a few U furloughees get some jobs and many hundreds of new pilots get jobs at the regionals to fill the growth at airlines that got the jets...at the expense of some that did not. PSA for instance almost doubled in size because of it, and TSA, Chitaco, and others saw large growth also. Non-participants such as PDT and ALG have seem stagnation or shrinkage.

But yes, to get a J4J seat you must be a furloughed U pilot. It is not a great deal for any involved by any means, but it did provide some furloughees with jobs and it did get a lot of 1000 hour newbie pilots their first regional job.

Better than nothing but still a pretty good screw job to the mainline guys since the RJ's routes are almost exact copies of what used to be flown by mainline aircraft at twice the pay, especially out of places like CLT.

I have wondered what the heck J4J was.....Thanks, and it is pathetic! It makes you wonder what else is in store. I have a new respect for the J4J folks.
