I'm still waiting for an interview date with NJA. I have been wondering what others who have been hired have done about their homes they were currently living in, if they didn't live in the base they were assigned. Does NJA give X amount of time to sell your house or what? I do not live anywhere near any one of the five domiciles, but I own a home here. What would I do?

Not take the job till they opened up more domiciles.

Seriously

I think that only LA and CHM are available now given the popularity of DAL, PBI and TEB. Am I wrong? Personally, I would not move to LA given the super-high costs. Unfortunately, that leaves CHM which could not be more boring (unless you grew up there)... I hope more new domiciles are opened soon. This is certainly one area where CS beats NJA hands down...

I don't work there so someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't think they care where you live but they do care that you are in domicile at the beginning of your trip. It's up to you to make arrangements to be there on time.

Training is so backed up that you will have lots of time to get things done once you get into the system. About half the guys I've talked to are staying where they are and doing their best to make the job work with where they live and the other half are making the move. Moving is never easy, but if offered the job you probably won't be starting right away and you will have plenty of time in the prolonged training process to try to get moved. It will be on your own dime, but if you want the job you do what you've gotta do. I moved, but I didn't own so it was easy. I have heard that they are interviewing people based on where they say they want to be based. Those who want Dallas or TEB just aren't getting the interviews right now, but none of the bases are officially closed. Good luck.

Thanks JTF. I did put DAL on my app, but it's also only been a week or so since I sent it in. Hopefully I will hear from them soon. Generally speaking, how long does training last? Basic Indoc, Flight Safety, etc??? Start to finish on average.

Take the job then quit!

Seriously

If a whole class took the job, then said, "We don't like TEB or LAX, thanks for the type rating." Problem would solve itself.

I ran into one of our new hires over the last tour and that is exactly what he is doing.

Right now he is driving 5 hours to report to his domicile. Once he has a few hundred hours in the plane he plans to skip this place and take a job at private operator in Florida that needed him to have the type rating and time in the plane before they could hire him.....for alot more money then what he's going to be making at the start here.

Not a bad plan if you ask me.....
